If your neighbor works for the sheriff's department he ought to know better.

I really am interested to know what the legal ramifications would be. I'll probably never do it, honestly. I'm just curious to know how it would all play out if it was done

A couple if years ago my neighbor's son was shooting one of those air guns that shoots the plastic balls. He hit my house a couple of times. I called the sheriff out and was told they couldn't do anything about it since it wasn't a metal bb or a bullet he was shooting. The deputy just went over and told the punk to stop.
That may be your solution.

Why didn't you just ask him to stop?

Does LA law recognize ancient lights doctrine? You might have a lawsuit.

Perfect situation for the Slingshot. You get entertainment of trying to hit it without a potential weapons charge. When you take it out, he'll have no idea WTF happened.

What kind of drone was it? One of the toy-type ones like the Parrot AR?

Or a serious one like the Phantom 2 Vision+

The difference is $1000, so tread lightly with the destruction of property.

I've consulted a few friends of mine about this. We discussed it at length and arrived at a consensus as to how you should handle this:

As discussed, if it's over his property, he has air rights and the drone is trespassing. He would probably be within his rights especially saying he feared for the safety of his minor children.

Any solid answers yet on legality of drones over personal property?

Yeah, thread was long and I was like ooh a drone thread. I'd be pissed if in the same situation, but my love for drones would conflict with the desire to shoot it down.

But also, those propellers are so fragile that it wouldn't take much, especially if it's the Parrot. So it would be tempting.

I've reminded my neighbor that I will shoot down his drone if it's over my yard & showed him this thread to explain possible air defenses used. It's become a challenge now.
