This incoming group isn't interested in blending in. They expect us to change to accommodate them.

Si senor, that is exactly what I am saying. You will either speak Spanish in several southwestern states or you won't be understood.

Most of these incoming "refugees" have no interest in assimilating nor learning to speak English. They want the culture to change to adjust to them.

That's nothing new antibarner. Look at the history of immigration in this country--plenty of immigrants didn't learn to speak English and even lived in their own enclaves. But their children learned to speak English. Assimilation happens, it just doesn't happen overnight.

We were a melting pot for people who wanted to be American. Now they just want to bring their third world problems to America.

No but, it does mean that there will be significant social problems caused by this. Pressure on schools, public health, low wage jobs, etc.

LSUwag, and we don't have all those problems now? Look at the numbers of undocumented people in the US now. We can't just deport them all. That would hurt the economy even more. If they've been living here and working then why not let them be citizens.

I live in AL, I've seen the number of Hispanics and Vietnamese grow in the past decades. The world didn't end for us. In fact IMO our world got a lot more interesting.

C'mon papa, they want to be Americans too. That's why they came here. People said the same thing about Irish immigrants and Italian immigrants and Vietnamese immigrants.

I'm glad you think it got more "interesting". Great outlook to base policy decisions on.

They are no different than any other immigrants in our history. Assimilation takes time. Society changes. When groups blend together of course the result is change. That's happened throughout our history.

We are definitely not getting the best and brightest. We are getting the breeders and gang members.

You know that's not what I meant Tiguar. That's my personal opinion of how things are here. But that has nothing to do with immigration policy. It does have everything to do with accepting change. As to immigration policy, we need immigration reform and no party seems to have the nerve to touch it right now.

I agree with that. We need immigration reform and we need it badly. Too bad neither party wants to tackle it.

Well you heard it from the Speaker of the House and I don't think he is a "lib". Realistically though there are far too many undocumented people to deport them all. Plus the economy would suffer even more. Some form of amnesty may be the only realistic solution. That though needs to be coupled with immigration reform.

Why would deporting their flood of illegals hurt the economy? They put a strain on local and state governments, and when they do work its usually low wage jobs.

That's why we have press 3 for French 4 for Italian 5 for German and so on. I have no problem with people wanting to immigrate into America and assimilate with the culture. Be proud of where you are from. Look at the Italian-Americans, they celebrate their heritage but at the same time respect all that America is and stands for. This current wave of immigrants does not appear to want to assimilate. The assimilation (out of many one) is what has made America great. The perceived resistance to assimilation is what will bring America down. IMHO

Yep low wage jobs that US citizens won't do. Remember when Ga and AL passed their tough immigration laws. The farmers and landscapers in both states raised hell because there was no one to work. The US citizens didn't last a day in those jobs. I don't know where you live or what you see, but I see a lot of really hardworking people. A massive deportation would be extremely costly to this country, just the actual act of deportation would cost as well as being nearly impossible just due to the numbers (over 11 million). Not to mention that those workers, low wage or not, buy food, buy gas, buy clothes just like we do. 11 million people no longer spending money would definitely hurt the economy. Not to mention all of those that are actually working and paying taxes.

A lot of smoke out there right now that Obama is about to use his pen to allow large numbers of illegals to stay here under some kind of expansion of the DACA Act.
I heard that he was going to send UN troops down to Texas to invade the state. Did that happen yet?

And why do we need so called immigration reform? All we need to do is enforce the laws we have. There is nothing wrong with immigration, as long as it is controlled and legal. We cannot afford this invasion, we have Americans aplenty that need help as it is.
