Maybe if you knew how LSU treated him, you would feel differently. For starters, he was two weeks shy of the lifetime health benefits. So he asked if he could use his months of vacation time in order to get there, he was told no. If you had a boss or employer do something that vindictive, you may want to fire back too
AT&T did pretty much the same thing to my mom except worse in my opinion but she didn't sue the company. She just got another job. And she was the best at what she did not mediocre.
She had worked there for like 24 years as a systems analyst and when they closed the plant down in Shreveport. Her boss asked if she could stay on for another year to help train the staff because she didn't want to move to Denver or New York and in return she would get her early retirement. But 6 months into the deal her boss got his retirement and a month later corporate called and said they were satisfied with the analysts teams training and she was no longer needed. And she would not be eligible for her early retirement. Corporate claimed to have no knowledge of the arrangement and since her boss was retired no one had her back.
Bottom line this happens all the time and in this case, it appears he should have been let go long ago.

So he was a few weeks short of a health insurance gravy train and he was cut off.
And people say sports departments never look at the bottom line.
Ah well that's why we got Obamacare right? Let all the country pitch in to cover his healthcare instead of just LA?
Smart move

Buried in the last sentence of the article...
If he's as good as he claims to be, why has he only been interviewed for two jobs at schools of lesser stature athletically than LSU and not offered either?

Minnis, who has been hosting a college tennis show on The Tennis Channel, interviewed for head women’s tennis coaching jobs at Maryland and Willliam & Mary, but did not get an offer.

If he would have left quietly he probably would be having better luck finding a job. Playing the race card was a bad move on his part. He was let go for his poor performance, all there is to it.

So LSU hires him and keeps him employed for 20 years while his teams are consistently mediocre and then suddenly decides to fire him because he's black?
I think I would rather defend that lawsuit than represent the plaintiff.

If true, thats dirty as hell and all kinds of fricked up. He will win atleast win the arguement for getting this benefit. its obvious LSU fired partly in order to avoid providing this.

What you guys don't seem to understand is that LSU didn't owe him sh*t. LSU simply chose not to renew his contract. Simple as that. When his contract was over, they told him to hit the road. He's playing the race card because that is the only card in his hand.

Minnis was not a successful coach. He needed to be let go. I believe his contract was up and not renewed. Sour grapes.

quote:people who file these baseless suits are doing a total disservice to other blacks. All this does is make an employer think twice about hiring a black candidate because if they ever have to fire them, even with cause, they know they may be subject to a bullshite wrongful termination suit based on race.

Minnis will likely never be hired again as a coach b/c of this suit. See former USL head football coach Jerry Baldwin who sued USL after being fired following 3 seasons with 6 total wins. Guy hasn't coached since.

He got his lifetime health benefits after he bitched about it. Guilbeau had a column on it. LINK
And he is suing for race discrimination.

The guys an arse
