Racer V and Bear Republic, in general don't get enough consideration on this board. The Racer series, Hop Rod Rye, Tartare (Berliner Weisse), and Big Bear Stout are all excellent.

Racer 5 is great, but unfortunately, I haven't seen anything from Bear Republic in quite some time around here or I would definitely be buying their offerings.

On my third Imperial Java Stout.

It is a great beer. I don't get Santa Fe up here, but I have had several through BXN, and the first time I ever shared a beer with a fellow FBDer was a Santa Fe Imperial Java Stout.

Is this your first time drinking a coffee stout? It took me a long time to learn to appreciate stouts, but now i really like them alot.

I'm in the midst of my journey. I can see the beautiful stout waterfall over the hill and through the woods, but I'm not quite there yet

I am a fan of Bear Republic too. Racer X is solid too.

Apex=Cafe Racer 15>>Racer 5>>>>Racer X

Racer X is a bit too malty for me.

It is my first coffee stout. It feels kind of different. I've had 3 and I feel great. It's a different kind of buzz. Maybe it's because I'm not use to it yet.

not sure if you've gotten into those i gave you or not but they're solid albeit big stouts. the testify is a BA that you can hold onto until the weather cools. you can do the same with the expedition stout.

I am a little more malt tolerant than many.

FBD is an All Day IPA at Olive or Twist.

Yeah that is one area where you and I diverge on certain beers. Prime example would be the Lake Erie Monster.

They would if those bastards came back to the state. They teased us, then left us high and dry.

Drinking 3 SF Java Stouts is like drinking 6 Buds.

So they were in LA and then left? Did you guys not buy enough of their beers?

If you look at Lagunitas, Deschutes, Bear Republic, Firestone Walker, Ballast Point (another underappreciated brewery) and Oskar Blues, which are all in Texas - one of them is going to hit LA first and sell a lot of beer. Everyone else will follow. Looks like Lagunitas may be the first in.

That's because LA doesn't get their beers any longer.

ETA: Already covered

I bought the shite out of Hop Rod Rye. They pulled out a few years back.

The population of La is only what...4 million or so? It's just too small of a state. But they do have more mavens per capita.

LA has more people than OR. It's also got more people than VT.

OR and VT have more people with refined beer preferences.

And income.

And education.

BMC has a huge hold on LA. Majority of my family thinks I'm crazy for drinking what I drink. Like it's some kind of foreign exotic thing.

Cocktails/Wine is big in New Orleans too. A lot more popular than craft beer.
