showcase and travel for HS age kids is killing it..

heck teams were missing players for state tourney because of it..

but none the less Shaw or Jesuit refuel or retif... should still be proud tonight when they hoist state championship trophy...

funny thing at a legion qtr final game.. 8 colleges had coaches there.... the other night...

one kid.. heard nary a peep from any school anywhere.... played some show case and travel....

first time got noticed was the other night... now has 4 talking to him...

showcases is a money grab too but....it does get em in front of coaches...

my kid has not played in one inning of it since he started hs....and I doubt he will... the only thing that may get him is a chance to play ONCE with some kids he is tight with from NO...

The thing about all these travel and select movements in sports like baseball and basketball is that I don't think they've improved the end product athletes in the U.S. over the days when there were things like Little League and biddy basketball. Heck, in both baseball and basketball I think the rest of the world has done some catching up to us.

Last year at the LLWS they were talking about the Japanese team and that they practice 8 hrs a day, pack a lunch when they leave home and practice all day!! Don't act like they're catching up just playing in their 250 Yen/year rec ball league over there.

I could be wrong but I remember when i was playing you had to win to advance...aren't some of these teams just entering in a tourney in Panama City or wherever w/o even being that good?
We had a team in my son's age group go play in the "world series" this year that was 0 for the season, they left 0 for the season. How does that inspire a kid to work harder? Knowing you can go play in the "world series" before your 1st practice is comical. Extra playing time is one thing, but this team would have benefited much more from sending all their kids to an instructional camp for a week versus getting run ruled most games. But, there is not enough money to be maid if you eliminate teams based on merit.
