Do you really think he can keep that up until he's 40 years old?

Why not? Manning looks to be easily doing it by your opinion. Barring a serious injury, what's stopping Brees from having a few more great seasons passing yards wise?

Will Manning hit the 70,000 yard mark before the end of the year?

I think Brees has a good chance at catching Favre in three seasons

Show me your calculations.

Nearly 7,000 passing yards per season, for 3 seasons?

Is that what he's thinking

Nah, I looked at Peyton's number for some reason. So scratch that, I think Brees has a chance at Favre, but it's not a sure thing.

Peyton and Favre get busted for steroids.

Brees gets banned for the pine tar on his face.

Marino holds the record again.

Given his current trajectory, it will be incredibly difficult to argue against Drew Brees being a top 5 QB all time. He will be top 5 in virtually every major QB statistic and top 3 most likely for a good bit. If he wins another Super Bowl it would cement it. The only argument would be he played in the "QB era", but people would dismiss that for Brady and Manning.

In five years the NFL would have made tackling WRs illegal contact so every QB will be putting up 700 YPG.

When Peyton retires, he'll have all the passing records.

But what he wants is another ring- and I don't think that will happen.

The rules favor offenses and quarterbacks no longer take beatings....I wouldn't be shocked to see Brees/Brady/Manning all break or come very close to Favres record. Rodgers too, but he's a a lot further out and needs to stay healthy. Then it probably won't be far off until somebody breaks their new records, just the way the game is headed

Other than Peyton Manning and Brett Favre (for 1 year), name all of the other quarterbacks able to play at a high level from the age of 37-40.

Manning probably can pass up Favre.

Name all the qbs that are 35+ playing in this age of protecting the qb. Farve is the outlier. You can barely breathe on qbs now before they stop the play or throw the flag.

Brady is 37. Add him to the list. In two years you can add Brees.

He's actually 36, according to ESPN.

He didn't play at a high level in 2013 while he was 36. He played at a high level in 2012 while he was 35, though. He was pretty much average last year, statistically speaking.

So I guess he can't play at a high level anymore?

Can you admit that its as easy as its ever been for an older qb to play the game at a high level?

Brees has averaged 5271.67 yards a season over the last 3 seasons (5476->5177->5162) and 42.67 TD (46->43->39).

If he hits his nola tenure average #s of 624 attempts a season, completes 67.3% of them, and 7.8 Y/A for the next 3 years, he'd add 14526 yards by the time he's 37 and that'd give him 65607.

If he chooses to play at 40 (finishing his career in the 2019-2020 season) and can average 4k a season for the last 3 seasons, he'd at 12k making his total around 77k.

If he plays until 40, I don't see how that is farfetched that he can break Favre's record.

Obviously Manning is the virtually no risk answer.

Brees has an outside shot. Obviously I'd prefer to see Brees just because, you know, New Orleans, but let's be real -- the further away you are, the greater the risk of injury. At this point it's probably only injury that will stop Manning and Brees from passing Favre.

I'd take Joe Montana over any of them.

I think if he in fact plays another 5 years, we can expect about 14,000 yards in the next 3 years putting him at about 65,000. The last two lets say 7,500 yards. Looks like 72,500 to me. Those are reasonable numbers if he plays 5 more years healthy.
