living up north, someone would ask where I was from and I'd say "baton rouge".

the response nearly every time was "where?"

a lot of people in the northern states have ZERO idea that baton rouge is the capital of louisiana.

all they know about is new orleans and mardi gras parades.

My best friend is from up north. All of his friends from back home actually thought we used boats to get around everywhere thanks to the show Swamp People.

I had a boss in from New York at a previous job and he was suprised that there were so many white people in New Orleans. He thought it was all black people.

That being from Louisiana doesn't make you Cajun. Or, just what Cajun is in general. Or that there is a difference in Cajun and Creole cooking.

I wonder how many ppl even in Louisiana know what a Creole is.

Do people really think we ride everywhere In boats?

You would be surprised. I have a friend who was a very highly recruited football player in the late 80's when we were in High School. A very famous hall of fame coach came to his house to recruit him. This coach actually asked where the gators were. He thought they ran around in people's yards.

It's not solely La but people not from the areas on this map probably have no idea what a salt dome is.

They sure as hell don't know we're losing a football field of land every hour to coastal erosion.

But if a flamingo farts in the Everglades, they hold a fundraiser for it.

- New Orleans accent is closer to that of Brooklyn than Cajun or French
- Lots of Catholics
- Lots of Jews in New Orleans
- Cajun =\= Creole
- North Louisiana is more like Arkansas and Texas than the rest of its own state
- Shreveport is an old Indian word for "Shithole"
- Baton Rouge is the capital (people don't know this)

And FWIW I'm French as fugggggg

That LSU is in Baton Rouge (if you don't follow football).

When I'm here people always tell me, "It must be awesome living in New Orleans."

"I wouldn't know"

Was the inspiration for the "Devils Bayou" location in Disney's movie, The Rescuer's.

Once you get out of the US, most people have no idea what/where Louisiana, and even New Orleans, is.

I can vouch for this. In Toronto, I had someone go, "Louisiana, isn't that between Mississippi and Georgia?" When it occurred to me that he was talking about Alabama, I wanted to throat punch him.

Drive thru Daiquiri shop's

You can buy liquor anywhere.

Prison capital of the world.

Most important state in this country.

NOLA is a dumb example to base the rest of the country on.

accents are different just about every 2-3 parishes over you travel. At least on the coast it is.
