It would have to be a Mark Teixiera haul and even then it would most likely have to include a Major League ready pitcher.

Management still believes that this year was an aberration and are only a starting pitcher and another piece away from being near the top next year. Similar to the 2013 Giants I guess.

No way could that happen given his age though....

Beltre will be 36 next April

I believe that is what it would take for JD to move him.

And he is still an elite hitter and he is signed for next year. Any contending team would take Beltre in a heart beat even at his age and the Rangers are obviously hoping a team would grossly overpay for him.

.335 with 14 homers and he didn't hit his first one until May 6th.

which is dumb, I think we can both agree with that. Tex was 2 years away and younger, I would figure it would take something like how the Tigers acquired Miggy. what at the time was their top prospect, a top 10 prospect, and a young MLB caliber player (of course none of the players panned out)

That is true.... 3B is so thin... Hell Yankees would love him

Maybe the Rangers could somehow trade Jon Daniels to a team in Japan.

Why do you hate Japan?

We'd have to give the Japanese a bucket of seeds for them to take him.

JD thought mid-term deals the last two years were the way to go too. Neither did anything but give away prospects.

If JD is GM next year, I've told my SO not to waste my time asking me about Rangers tickets. I'm not giving that fool another dime of my money.

I think by JD announcing that he is not available means he already has a leg up in negotiations. I think the conversation starts with a MLB ready pitcher or outfielder.

The main reason I think it will take that much to move Beltre is because the Rangers just do not want to move him. They believe he will still be a big part of the team next year and his chemistry and leadership with the club is irreplaceable.

You mean, like how the Rangers still have a top 10 farm system? And after this season, it will probably be top 5.

Or would you rather be the Angels with a team full of players on the wrong side of 30 and a farm system ranked dead last?

Or the Athletics with a solid team right now that is betting on this season and the next, but a farm system that is almost worse than the Angels now?

Farm system is so overrated.... I hate that the Yankees had a top 5 system 3 years ago and now they rank around 20 even though those guys didn't reach the majors

Your hope is that you get a star and a few good players out of a highly ranked farm system and then you can use the rest as trade chips. They know more than 80% of those guys won't amount to anything in the majors, but they are damn nice to have to trick some other team that they might pan out.

Yeah, I just no longer buy into farm system rankings anymore just because it is a crapshoot

Sure, the yanks wouldn't pay much salary. But why trade at all for a 5+ ERA and 1.5+ WHIP?
At least the worst Soriano could do is make an out. Jackson can immediately give up runs.

Because the Yankees are desperate.... Jackson has a track record and if they get the Cubs to pay most of his salary no harm

No one is giving anything close to a Tex haul for a 35 year old ballplayer.
They aren't giving that for anyone, really.
this is the age of the prospect.
Tex probably figures this year as a 1 year anomaly (I would disagree). But they have an intractable payroll problem

They have the players, just need the health and some pitching depth

So what do you think Beltre is worth since you don't believe his worth premium prospects right now?

Match up up with the Dodgers... I'm interested to see what you come up with.

He will finish out his contract as a Ranger if they're looking for a Teix type deal. Nothing wrong with asking a lot, but there's only an extremely minuscule chance that type deal happens.

He's certainly not going to fetch a colossal package of prospects like Tex but he's still an All Star player playing at a very high level. There's no reason why he couldn't fetch 2 blue chippers from a team going all out to win a championship.

Let's say he's sent out to the Dodgers. He's going to fetch at least one of Peterson or Seager in a deal if not both imo.
