I agree with Jones. I went to one in Fort Worth and had some beers that you can't get or never see here. Had some appetizers too. Pretty decent, and reasonable prices.

Sounds like bullshite. If it can possibly be gotten here, Polly can get it.

ETA: Yeah, I didn't object. But I'm gonna say the lack of food will be a strike against it. I'm not saying it will fail, but print money seems like hyperbole.

I would put my money on there won't be a better selection. They won't have the same selection as the Florida etc location. They will be at the mercy of what is available here. So the mavens won't be excited to drink.

and the owner of the Cove has shite that Avenue Pub never has, or will never have. Not really the point though. Having some extremely rare shite like him and Polly can get is awesome but how often are you really buying a beer that is $15+ a bottle? Not often

The selection at the two world of beers I went to were great and the prices are very reasonable. The lack of food is going to hurt but when I was in the location I went to, they allow you to get delivery from all the nearby places (even places that didnt deliver have a deal with them to deliver to the bar). They even offered to order all the food for us and have it delivered. The bartenders were very knowledgeable, which is more than I can say for some of the beer bars in BR.

I dont know about printing money but a corporate chain has deep pockets and can afford to eat profits at the start to get the place going right.

Just like all the other bars in the city. So I can see them purchasing more options than the current bars.

this is true.

I'm not a beer snob but I'll probably rarely go to this place. If I could walk there I would be a regular, but it will mostly likely be a place i stop at on gamedays.

My guess is that you've underestimated the variety a chain can produce. They will pull diversity a stand alone can't.

Edit: Zwanze Day could use a better location…..

Not saying you're wrong, but if you're throwing slings like that you're gonna need some fricking proof. Whatcha got, brah?

I laugh while I take another pour from my $18 bottle of Lolita. Honestly, I'd say every third, maybe fourth time I go to Avenue I'm gonna get a bottle, and it's always gonna be $20+. shite, I bought a Aun Mas Cafe Jesus the other day at Bulldog with zealot and that shite cost about that price for 12 oz. I'm thinking you need to get on my OT Baller Teacher's Salary level.

Jokes aside, I'll welcome the place, especially if it has a solid selection that's reasonably priced. But I can't imagine them out "mavening" Avenue.

I agree with your last point. Corporate money is a different ballgame.

The guy brings in and has sold beer that isnt available in LA. Not the end all be all of breweries but Ive had Dogfish Head in there and other breweries not offered in LA. I usually dont sit there and look through the menu because it takes forever but Ive had friends work there and they always had beers that werent available in LA. Illegal yea but I guess he doesnt care.

Probably not but Im not going to bash the place for not having a couple of $25/bottles of beer that I never buy anyway.

People are already dismissing this place and it isnt even open yet and I doubt most have even set foot in one. A beer bar chain is not like a restaurant chain imo. Its not like they buy the beer from Bells and dump out the Two Hearted Ale and put Abita in it. That bottle of Jesus beer will taste the same at World of Beer

Who gives a frick? Unless you live in an awesome beer area?

They are proud of their beers price wise. I like ours here in Katy.

Stopped at the one in Florida recently, a lot of taps that were local from the region. Doubt one in New Orleans could pull that but it would have a larger selection than many New Orleans places.

They may have enough pull to grab a few from out of state we can't get here because it is a chain. Hopefully the bottle selection will be a plus.

Mediocre. I didn't buy that when I had it available to me. But your point stands. I suppose I'd ask how he gets it there, but I suppose he mules it in somehow. frick legality. Smokey and the Bandit is one of my favorite movies. As for the rest of what you had to say, who gives a shite? Do you really think the GM of a chain is going to be willing to skirt the boundaries of legality like your boy at The Cove? Yeah. I fricking doubt it. They'll be limited by what they can get distributed here, and Polly has a moderately longstanding relationship with the distributor. Who do you think their going to prefer? Someone with a track record or some upstart?

Admittedly corporate $$$ talks, but still. I can't see them abandoning Avenue for this. And this really isn't a conversation of Avenue vs. WoB. I don't mean to frame it as such. I think Avenue will continue to be the class of the city. It's just about the viability of WoB. They'll do fine, I'm just offering that they won't "print money" like others seem to think because of some other key factors.

I guess if you consider that mediocre, not much will please you besides avenue pub.

No, never said that and I don't expect it.

Funny cause that's all you've pretty much made it out to be

Ok. I've only seen one person say that and it was Zealot. I mentioned food is going to hurt them and that they may even be in the tank at first.

Don't be disingenuous. I said that if it can be obtained, Avenue can get it. Legally is obviously the assumption. You said that The Cove shits on Avenue. Cool. Nice red herring. Who gives a frick about The Cove considering the conversation?

You then acknowledged that WoB won't circumvent legality like your buddy at The Cove apparently will. So why are we even having a conversation? Avenue will have a selection that is AT LEAST on par with WoB. At least.

Ok. I've only seen one person say that and it was Zealot. I mentioned food is going to hurt them and that they may even be in the tank at first.

Okay. Our position is almost identical. So why the hell are we having this debate?

Man, we're good. I know you're not mad. I'm not mad. This is some Cool Runnings Peace be the journey shite.

ETA: Going back and reading through, it all started because some dude basically said WoB would get beer Avenue couldn't. Okay. You know that's ridiculous and so do I. We're good.

It was in response to you pulling out the avenue can get anything they want. Who cares if they can and what does it have to do with WoB?

The guy might have innocently just been talking about the beers available at that Texas location compared to LA bars.

Urine, I dunno off hand. I rarely ever go there. The guy does 'mule' shite in and its not really a big secret. Might not be the super secret Trappist brew stolen out of their golden dildo chest, but its beer not available here.

Again, that's in response to some jabroni saying WoB will get beer you can't get anywhere else in LA. Why is this such a hangup for you? His statement was blatantly false. We both know it. Just accept it and move on.

TX distribution is not LA distribution. OK. Cool. What merit does that have? I'm glad WoB in TX can get, say, Firestone Walker. Makes fricking sense that they can. But they won't magically be able to provide it in LA just because TX can do it. We literally have nothing to debate. I'm so confused. I want WoB. But they can't provide anything in terms of selection that Avenue can't. Is this really a debate?

UT, please tell me about 90 minute. How is the finish? Tell me about the hop presence? How are the malts?
