I think the trade itself was fine, I've hated just about everything else Demps has done since then though. Noel was an exciting prospect that late in a weak draft but as everyone has said, his strengths (heh) overlap with Davis. Burke or McLemore aren't good enough to say that they should have gotten one of those two and held onto this year's pick too. I just think there's a good chance in two years that they're around 6th in the west, capped out, without any trade assets right as Davis is entering his prime and 2nd contract.

I was looking forward to the New Orleans Block party, all day every day (during the NBA season).

Davis + Asik will be a significantly better Block Party then Davis + Noel.

So ultimately would you rather Jrue-Asik or Noel-Peyton/Smart?

Per 36 min

Anthony Davis 2.9 bpg (2013-2014)
Omer Asik 1.7 bpg (career)
Jeff Withey 2.6 bpg (2013-2014)

Noel was purely for trade bait when went into that pick knowing we wouldn't select anyone rather get someone through trades.

Certainly a boom or bust strategy, but can you blame them? They were a bottom level playoff team in the East. They werent going anywhere as the team was built and so they shot the moon to try and break the superteam mold that has dominated that conference for the better part of the past 10 years. I commend them for trying something different rather than just playing catch up with the actual contenders.

Also things to consider is that the Pelicans' pick should have been later except for the injury issues and the poor conference balance. Obviously this is a risk when trading a pick.

Evans probably doesn't agree to come to the Pelicans without Jrue Holiday.

The Pelicans now have an very young proven team instead of waiting on other prospects to develop. I am sure Benson wants to see some wins before he dies.

The Pelicans were worried about Davis handling bigger centers and he is a better player than Noel will ever be. So why would they think Noel would be an answer at C?

No. I think it was a win win trade, 2 teams going different directions got what they wanted. Noel has supposedly been doing well in Summer League but I wouldn't have liked him as a Pelican. Too much Derrick Williams 2.0 potential. You can't have a top pick at a position where you already have a logjam or you end up ruining the prospect which ruins his trade value a la Derrick Williams in Minnesota.

No I don't blame them, just like I don't blame Dell for what he is doing.

I just know there is more than one way to do things. People on the internet act like what the 76ers are doing is the ONLY way to do things and just sooooo unbelievably great.

There is this. There is also the potential for average-above average players to put up very nice stats and over-inflate their values on such bad teams. Someone is going to get theirs. Without a real benchmark, how can you tell how good they really are? I can tell you by the time MCW comes off his rookie salary, he is going to get a max/near max deal. His team sucks and he's the one with the ball in his hands. He will put up numbers. Those numbers will be compensated.

I have a feeling that Nerlens NBA career wont last very long and he'll be prone to injury. He's skinnier looking that AD was when he was at Kentucky.

Not sure how true this is. Hell they could have pitched more of a pg role without jrue.

But bottom line is that it is tough to say whether either team won, BC of the entirely different directions each team was/is heading, not to mention other variables like draft position, which you alluded to, or any other FA moves that would have occured since then.

I'd like to say it will be a good discussion moving forward, however, I think the pelicans will be the better team in the long run BC of AD if nothing else. Also, I don't think the sixers have a clear vision either and will have a tough time putting together a complete product.

Is there even a debate?

The Pelicans are trying to win, not kick around in the lottery for the next three years.

Holiday and Evans are boys from their AAU days. Evans actually preferred to stay in Sacramento at the time.

He said that the Holiday trade played a role in his decision. I think the real question on Tyreke is how much money Detroit was actually offering. If they were in the ball park of us I think he chooses Detroit if we have MCW instead of Holiday.

They are searching for their franchise player. Did they get it with Embid or will they need to keep playing the Lottery?
