Toughest Holes from 2006
Hole 12: Par 4, 447 yards
This played as the hardest hole on the course in 2006. The hole bends left, with the wind pushing tee shots right, into the path of three steep fairway bunkers flanking the outside of the drive zone. Hit it in these steep, revetted bunkers and the only escape is a wedge out – there’s no chance of reaching the green from them. From the fairway, the approach is a short or middle iron to a perched green that has a steep mound on the left and a sharp drop off to the right. With the prevailing wind working against the line of approach, players have to use the wind as kind of backboard. It’s the kind of shot that requires exact ball-striking precision; otherwise, the ball will drift way off line.
Hole 14: Par 4, 454 yards
Tiger Woods hit 2-iron off the tee and a 4-iron into the hole for an eagle during his second round here in 2006 on what proved to be the second-hardest hole on the course for the week. Good luck, as the drive has gotten even tougher thanks to an additional bunker in the landing area such that both sides are now pinched. From there it’s a very awkward approach into the crosswind over an intervening dune that partially obscures the entry path.

I think I like Rose to go back to back (Scottish & British) like Mickelson did last year.

I think Rose won week before last too.

on the espn best ball challenge, Tiger Woods costs the most to put on your team
is that ESPN trolling Tiger fans or something? it would seem like highest salary would mean best odds to win
i confess I haven't seen any odds, but I doubt tiger is any kind of favorite this week
eta: he's got the second best odds to win
i guess thats books covering themselves knowing they are gonna get a bunch of tiger fan bets

I don't think Mickeltits has the confidence in his putter right now to pull it off.

Hard to argue against Rose.
I pretty much like anyone in these links courses that are free swingers and creative shot makers (so I like a lot of Euros this week).
Fowler
El Pato Cabrera
Sergio
Mickelson
McIlroy
Bubba
Westwood

I don't know much about the course, is it traditional links style? Fowler could be a good pick, what about Kaymer going for two opens in the same year?

It's a traditional links course, so shot making is key.
Kaymer has been a bit bleh in his last 2 starts, but he's rock solid. His game is good for a links course.
Other likes:
Jamie Donaldson
Miko Ilonen
Paul Casey

I hope Bubba comes out and says...Im going to over power this course. That would be very fun to watch either a 63 or 77.

I'm going with Tom Watson

I don't understand this. What has anyone seen over the last 6 months that gives any indication that Tiger can win this. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Tiger homer, want the guy to win 20, but it's just not happening. Playing on Sunday would be a win for him.

That group is awesome. Cabrera and Stenson are bad motherfrickers

i think its the bookmakers adjusting odds as to how the bets fall in
there are always people betting on tiger, so they can't make him too much of a long shot or they will risk losing too much

Yes indeed.
Stenson is due.
Stenson is due.

No doubt, he is my pick this week.

sergio will have a good week ... always plays well here and his putting is much improved ...
Posted on 7/14/14 at 1:46 pm to OutofTownAlumni
I'm picking Fowler
