Been catching replays of The X-Files on tv lately and it's as good today as it was in 1993.

What? It has awesome replay value. That's what's great about well done sci-fi

One if the best of all-time. I'm currently rewatching. I was in college at the time so I kind of missed the last couple of seasons. It's much better than Fringe IMO.

We loved the show in college. Wouldn't go out until it was over. GOAT.

i might be in the minority, but i loved the stand-alone eps of the 'x-files' alot more than the "mulder's lost sister" arc. things always got too serious for its own good whenever that arc got visited....i preferred the light banter between mulder & scully, hunting for things that go bump in the night, lol...

X-Files is my favorite show of all time. I love many of the characters (not just Scully and Mulder, but also Skinner, CSM, Krycek, X, etc).
IMO:
Season 1 is good, a bit clunky at times.
Season 2 is excellent
Seasons 3 through 5 are the apex
Season 6 is excellent
Season 7 is hit or miss
Season 8 and 9 are decent, but they pale beside the rest of the show.
I liked the mythology episodes more the first time through (esp for the first five seasons or so), but I think many of the standalones (Monster of the Week) eps have higher re-watchability. Also, as has been well documented, the mythology kind of went of the rails at some point.
Some of my other favorite shows are LOST, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, & The Sopranos. If you like LOST or Fringe The X-Files is something you should check out. Crazy to think it premiered 21 years ago this Fall and has been off the air for over 12 years.

I always felt the mythology was something they made up as they went along. Matter of fact, I think it all started when Gillian Anderson was pregnant and they had to do a "Scully got abducted!" storyline.
But it was a great show. I was obsessed with it in the early to mid-90s. After Mulder left, I just tuned in for the final episode.

It's only slightly dated compared to other stuff from the time.
I would also watch Millenium.

highly recommend
Cris Carter thought he could phase out the main characters and bring in new ones and make it a law and order type show, so the characters were never given proper closure and the overarching story became overly convoluted; HOWEVER,
you'd be hard pressed to find a network television show of higher quality.
1. The show features some of the most creative and imaginative writing in television history
2. The characters of mulder and scully are the core of the show. They start out as soap opera level actors, you can see their rapport developing on screen and their personalities flourishing. It is a thing of beauty.
3. The balance between serial and episodic is perfect. In fact, the monster of the week episodes are the best part. Some of them are, for lack of a better word, masterful.

Do yourself a favor and skip the the best episode, Season 4, Episode 2, called "Home". If you like it, you'll probably like the rest of them.
