Called a man about an 05 Tacoma with 51,000 miles( I know low miles). He wants 22 large for it. Told me Kelly Blue book is 26,000. Could this be legit?

I bought a 2008 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner (Double Cab) back in July 2010. At the time it only had 9k miles on it. Has running boards and a bed liner. One tiny crack in the front bumper and a scratch along the driver's side since I bought it. Other than, nothing visually or mechanically wrong with it.

I put it down as "good" condition (behind excellent and very good), and the kbb value is $21,134 (selling it on my own).

I bought it for roughly 26k (includes financing. terrible interest rate). I now owe less than $10k on it.

Point in case, they retain their value, EXTREMELY well.

This is so true. If you are going to get a tacoma, don't get the base model.

I own an '07 TRD Prerunner with 43k miles on it.

A friend looked up the KBB value last night for me out of curiosity and said it was listed at 25k.

If I can get my photobook account to work, I will post a picture and let you guys give me an idea of what I should ask for it. I am considering selling it.

They have 2013 prerunners for $26,000 with only 11,000mi.

I will be buying a new one soon. Can't really justify the used one at not much less than the new one.

I had a tacoma back in the day but IMHO it is a kids/very young adult truck. its just too small and now, severely overpriced.

This. They are cramped, burn more fuel than a half ton truck, and ride very poorly. They have a reputation for resale value and I think they are solid choices for Toyota loyalists that need four wheel drive and occasionally tow a small trailer..... but it is not the truck I'd choose if I put a lot of hard miles on my vehicle.

My last vehicle was a Tacoma and I'd have no problem getting another.

They are cramped
They definitely aren't as spacious as some of the other 4 door trucks on the market, but compared to what most of us drove before the 4 door trucks took over the market, they have plenty of room.

burn more fuel than a half ton truck,
No - MPG: Up to 21 city, 25 highway

They have a reputation for resale value
Resale goes a long way in my book.

They aren't targeting that guy. Most of the people that own 1500s or F150s don't tow anything and aren't putting "hard miles" on their vehicles.

severely overpriced
24-30k for an almost new four door truck is "severely overpriced"? Compared to what?

I have a 2013 4 door Tacoma...is was around $30k...a used 2010 one was around $25k...I figured I might as well get a new one...the resale is great. Drives great for me...the MPG isnt bad.

You know Kelly Blue Book is free to use online?

According to KBB, he is likely lying to you about the Blue Book value being 26k.

Can't you get a new Tacoma for around that price?

Great condition '05 with 51k miles, 4WD, appears to come in around 11k on KBB. Could be a little higher or lower depending on options and condition.

I have been looking at new Tacos lately, when would be the best time to buy? I was considering waiting until the end of the year in hopes they lower the price to bring in the new models, But it seems as though the inventory is already low right now.

The Tacoma is an old design but still appeals to younger guys and has very good resale value.....very much like the Jeep Wrangler. The bulk of Tacomas I see are two wheel drive pavement queens with the pre-runner suspension, which is odd to be because these trucks are pretty good off road when equipped with four wheel drive. They are actually pretty hard to find on dealer's lots in my area with four doors and four wheel drive....I suspect that's because at that price point, better full sized truck options are available for just a little more- including the Tundra.

We bought a vehicle last month and considered a Tacoma 4.0L crew cab 4x4 because I no longer needed the capabilities of a heavier full sized truck but still need four wheel drive. The idea of freeing up some garage space and spending less on fuel appealed to me.

To be honest , there was nothing about the Tacoma that really impressed me other than the promise of stronger than average resale value and the styling (which is subjective I guess). It sells well to the Toyota loyalists and is one of the few choices for people who only need a small work truck. The model I considered was almost $34,000 MSRP and came with a back up camera and trailer towing package. I felt like I'd get all the drawbacks of buying a full sized truck (terrible fuel economy), but with none of the benefits. 18 mpg overall for a small pickup is weak these days. The Tacoma has good brand equity but the design is pretty old. They may need to consider bringing a Diesel engine to the US for this model.

I'd go with the soft ones at Taco Bell. Great value for the price.

But seriously, I've never been happier with a vehicle than I am with my 2008 Tacoma. If you are going to be hauling a lot of large crap, then yes, you should probably get something bigger, but otherwise, the Tacoma is a solid truck with great resell value and zero maintenance issues.

The fact that four years later, I can sell this truck and walk away with over $20k is pretty good to me.

I bought mine in September, 3k, for $23k. I wanted more options and the 3 year depreciation; nothing I looked at used was less than my new truck. I has everything but 4wd. It is worth more now than when I bought it.

It is small, but for an everyday run around vehicle it is great. I know someone who had a 1996, with over 200k on it, xtra cab 4x4. Insurance gave him $6900. no questions asked when he was totalled by another driver. He bought it from the insurance, put a couple grand in fixing it and is driving it around today. No problems.

I swung by All Star yesterday on a whim to take a look at the Tacoma's on the lot. Only had 4 there which seemed odd. My friends who have them really enjoy them, so I figured it would be a good option since I do not feel I need or would get the use out of a full size truck.

Going to swing back by today and test drive one, even though it isn't a model I would consider buying. If I bought one new I would probably have to build it out as the ones on the lot were really pricey for what it is. Paying 36K for a midsize truck doesn't make much sense. I am looking to get the price under 30K
