Yea I don't think it's quite a must. We should at least get 1 point, but considering our next 6 or 7 so games after the international break are all very winnable, getting 3 points this weekend would be very nice.

I meant playing four guys together that have zero games as a foursome and 2 games as a threesome together, and expecting them to communicate on the road against the top attacking team in the league. It was a recipe for disaster and to see holes, half the line not stepping up, etc. should not be a big surprise.

+1

A lot of people are saying we are screwed, but we can only get better. And City won the league last season so I'm not worried or surprised by yesterdays result. Time to move on and get better.

You can see some of the qualities Moreno has - and thoughts of him and Sterling/Markovic bombing down that side together make me giddy.

But he also seems just a bit slow in picking up defensive happenings - I'm hoping thats the new surroundings/system/players around him and not an issue with him.

Much easier to draw conclusions about physical things than mental after one performance.

One thing I'm still frustrated by was just how dangerous we looked without actually being dangerous. So many potential chances squandered and without even a shot.

I think by the time we are in mid-season form these things will have worked themselves out, but its frustrating that two important fixtures were this early.

I'm much more worried about the battle for top 4 than winning the league - so losing at City is not the worst thing. But dropping three points to Tottenham could be huge later in the year.

yall are way to hard on moreno. it was his first game with the defense and you could tell he was very timid and had some nervous moments but overall hes going to be a very quality player. i feel like as a team we haven't even come close to finding our new identity without Suarez. just really sucks we had to play city away on our second game. i expect way better things on sunday

also screw glen get flanno back in there. he might not be the best player but i never seen anyone with as much heart and effort as that kid

I thought Glen actually did OK last night in defense. But it was going forward where he was atrocious. I wanted to throw my remote through the tv when he just dribbles directly into an opposing defender. He kills the attack. While Flanno is probably an upgrade defensively, I just don't know what he offers in attack. Same with Manquillo.

yeah, he was, but they def targeted attacking the new guy... but now he offers very little on defense and attack

TBH, I think the side could use a little balance with the fullbacks... So, if Manquillo/Flanno don't get forward quite as much, it would allow Moreno to, more often and give us some balance.. We don't need Alves/Alba v2

So if Flanno is on par/better defensively than Johnson, why would you not want him to start if he and Johnson offer the same offensively? Johnson makes a few good runs every now and then but not nearly enough for him to be playing as much as he has.

Sure Flanno isn't as athletic as Johnson but I can guarantee you that Flanno doesn't try to dribble into the other team. In fact, I find Flanno to be better because he very good at recycling possession and making timely runs.

ETA: I haven't seen enough from Manquillo but other than a few slip ups defensively, he's better offensively than Johnson

Manquillo's strength is suppose to be on the defensive side, but he's young and will take his lumps... it looks like Glen is out and will get to find out what those 2 can bring..

I think the biggest question is, when are we going to bring in a real DM to shield the back line?? Gerrard isn't good at that... at what point do his negatives outweigh his positives?? Does BR have the balls to drop him?? Can he work in a double pivot with a real DM (not Lucas - not Hendo)??

There is definitely a delicate balance in the fullbacks we are trying to find. In all honesty I am all for opening the RB position up for grabs and letting Flanno/Manquillo fight it out.

The question now is what do we do on the left if Moreno can't go? Is Enrique fit?

Yep I agree. Johnson got the start yesterday by experience alone.

As much as I love Stevie, I think it may be time to start trying out different options.

Let he who has never put it in the wrong hole be the first to cast stones. Or something like that.

I like to pretend he just walked around for like 5 minutes running into things putting it on. Then finally Gerrard came up and was all "WTF are you doing, mate?" and put it on for him.
