Was wanting to mention that. Markovic changed the game immediately and was contributing well to attacks. Hope he sees more time on the pitch in the coming games

He's constantly fricking up attacks
When he is at RB a lot of our attack flows to him. When he gets near the box he either cant find anyone open or gets dispossessed way too easy trying to drive the net. I dont think he is all that bad on the defensive side of the ball, other than he is getting slower.

I want more looks of Markovic. He was a bright spot out there
Thats gonna be the problem for BR going forward. How the hell does he get all of those guys on the pitch at the same time? 5 legit strikers and not enough starting spots. But the back 3rd is still our greatest liability and killer.

Just finished watching
Honestly, I'm not even that disappointed. Our backline (for the most part) was very organized and hard working. Just some occasional lapses in concentration (Moreno ) which I hope they learn can't happen, but you could see the quality from City in those moments where they took advantage of it. Still some problems you can see playing the new guys though as you can see Lovren trying to push the line up, but the right side was very slow in reacting. At this point, I just want some kind of stability to try and work out the kinks.
We had some moments where we looked fluid and creative in the final third, but a lot more passive unfortunately then I think we should have been. At this point, it's hard to say what formation/lineup will suit us best, inserting Balotelli for the 4-4-2 or going 4-3-3 and trying out Markovic because he looked a lot more active and changed our dynamic later in the game.
I fully expect us to have our growing pains with all the new guys and young players that still need to adjust to the side/league, so I was prepping for losing 3 points today. Hopefully with time they can figure it out, and Rodgers can figure out everything, but I still think the big part that led to our success last year was getting 3 points from most/all the bottom half teams to stay in CL and sustain our success.
Hopefully, our injuries aren't too bad, but now I'm glad we worked on improving our depth, but I think we could still use a solid/big name CM to come in, although probably not this window. I hope Rodgers uses our upcoming cup games and hopefully some easier CL games if we our group isn't stupid hard to try and work out some formations/player combinations to see where we stand.

nice edit bc i was about to say its crazy how so many Liverpool fans throw him under the bus bc he was solid back there for a long time. But dude is clearly on the back end of a very good career.
We throw him under the bus because he's fricking terrible. I don't give a damn what he did 5 years ago, he's by far the weakest part of this team. He doesn't care, he doesn't try. He can frick right off. I'll roll out a god damned red carpet for it.
Easily my least favorite player on Earth. I'd buy a guido judas shirt before a Glen Johnson one.

After watching I'm not nearly as doom and gloom as most of what I'm reading on the net. I know I'll get crucified by the board for saying this, but outside of 3 absolutely inexcusably bad errors, we looked the better team. I get it, if my mom had a dick she'd be my dad. City took their chances. But there's a decent amount to be positive about.
Also, Joe fricking Allen.

That's basically how I feel, although I do think that City is the much better and more complete side. City had a subpar performance, and it was still enough to comfortably handle what we were throwing at them. Very difficult fixture this early in the season. I don't want to read too much into our performance of one early match, but I think it has become clear where we struggle in the squad. With so many new faces, I hope they can all get acclimated soon. We'll be much much stronger as the season progresses. I just hope Moreno is OK.

Im not concerned right now... Its the second match of the season... away.. to the defending champs..
I'll be worried if this is the case in a month...

Oh absolutely. They played pretty poorly and still beat us by two. If they would've been on their game they could've ran us off the pitch.

Looked by his hand gestures that he just rolled it. His mobility went somewhat back to normal afterwards so I'm sure he'll be fine.

Not so sure its a must, but it wouldn't be good to lose. More so for the mentality it would leave than anything else.

I hope so. Otherwise it might be Manquillo and Enrique/Flanno on Sunday.

Well rewatching the last 5 minutes he looked completely fine to me. Tracked runs, put in tackles, passed it quickly out the back with no problem.

I thought we had a lot of bad first touches today in dangerous situations. Hell, Henderson had two different occassions where he was in the box and had to give up the initative due to a bad touch and ended up putting in bad crosses both times. Sturridge had a couple of bad hits - one a bouncing ball from 24 yards out that he sent in meekly. Suarez at least puts that hard on frame.
It was a pretty disappointing match. We played well enough, but that new backline is all over the place. Plenty to learn from, thats for sure.
Moreno's decision making needs to improve - both on offense and defense.
Bringing on Markovic an hour into a game will be a lot of fun to watch this season.
We had plenty of chances, we just didn't get enough of them done. Or even on frame/past the nearest defender.
ETA since I don't think made it clear enough - Sturridge had an off day. Very wasteful.

The old back line is the part all over the place. They refused to step up and it cost us the second goal. If they don't get Rafa out of their head we'll never have a defense worth a damn.

I didn't mean the new players - I meant playing four guys together that have zero games as a foursome and 2 games as a threesome together, and expecting them to communicate on the road against the top attacking team in the league. It was a recipe for disaster and to see holes, half the line not stepping up, etc. should not be a big surprise.

No I know, it was just a poor attempt at being clever and another chance to take a dig at that frick face Glen Johnson. An opportunity I never pass up.
