Inflated costs come with inflated salaries. I think people worry about inflation too much. Only in retirement does it play a huge roll. Your salary will be adjusted for inflation (I.e. we get a 3-4% raise each year on average).

We spoke with one of those financial "gurus" about our kids "future". He broke it down for us and basically we initially invested $1k in a mutual fund prior to his birth and let it ride based on the data at that time. Gained some (2000-06) , lost some (2007-2009)..made some changes and the advisor has done his job by investing wisely on our behalf.

I edited that you misunderstood my original post
That doesn't change the fact that you didn't read my second post before replying

Sounds about right for a good arse deal. My oldest was about to born when yours was 2. We got lucky. Mine wasn't a pig sty either. A friend's mil was very selective and would pick you if you had a kid on way and knew them. She raised 3 valedictorians. And she popped my son when he didn't use table manners. Loved her

To op I have to think driving age will be most expensive. School stuff will cost more, clothes, social life, car insurance. And add in at least one wreck!

I can't believe daycare is more expensive now than 15-20 years ago
No kidding.
at people in this thread acting valedictory about daycare costs who haven't raised kids in a quarter century and don't have a clue about the current, inflated cost of child care. And while you're at it, tell me about your $5 boxes of diapers and $1 cans of formula - I'm sure the costs of those goods haven't changed a bit, either.

My daughter got married two weeks ago, her last week on the dole was by far the most expensive.
Other than that they are most expensive during late HS/college when you are paying tuition and driving costs in addition normal living expenses.

I've said this before but besides daycare babies/toddlers are cheap. They only get more expensive as they get older.

10k/year? Where do you live that you can get it for less?
I think 10k/year would get you into a private school in almost any city in Louisiana.

What part of the country to you live in? NYC??? I didn't pay that much when both of my kids were in day care.

My parents alleviated most of their burden by making us pay for it under the guise of "responsibility"

You obviously didn't read the whole thread. Pretty standard price by what many other posters have said for that area(Texas).

Yeah babies are super cheap until you take into account the opportunity costs of mama not working.
