redundant?
maybe they should be called centermidnotinfrontnotinbackers...you know..for clarification
without designation of right or left...you have to know each players name

How is this 8 pages? Are people actually saying Bradley isn't good or something? I'm not going through and reading "arguments" on why Bradley isn't good from people who have never watched soccer until the WC, or from people who last played when they were 6

Don't waste your time. It's one guy spouting off ignorance and everyone else (myself including) feeding the troll by correcting/making fun of him.

Again I'm reminded of YMCA parents: "STEAL THE BALL FROM HIM JOHNNY! RUN UP TO HIM AND TAKE THAT BALL!"

No they actually aren't. Central midfielders are fluid, and this have no designation about where they should be. They aren't limited to one side of the field. Their job defensively is to press opponents and catch runners from the opposition midfield and mark them, as well as to recover the ball and make tackles where appropriate, as well as clog up passing lanes. A trio of CMs employed in a 4-2-3-1 are tasked with ensuring there is never a 3 v 2 advantage for the opposition in the center of the field, all the while attempting to create such an advantage for themselves. Thus the team shape in the center of midfield is paramount, and results in fairly static movement from the CMs. You rarely see a CM make a run beyond the ball.
Wide midfielders are usually designated as left or right, though they can easily switch sides when they need to. Wide midfielders are much more limited in their role, and are to stay on their side of the field while CMs are much more fluid.

Center refers to their placement within the three different parts of the field (defensive third, middle third, attacking third). While mid indicates they're in the midfield. So you can have a center mid, center back, and center forward. All operate in the center of the pitch as opposed to a right mid or right back.

A lot of times a CF/CAM's defensive role is exactly this. To push play to one side or whatever else a strategy would call for. To expect him to be on a full sprint is a little ignorant. No CM sprints the entire game. That is impossible, so not only do you want him to run 13 Km per game now you want him to sprint 3/4 of it.
This is exactly it. When Bradley was needed to get back into a defensive position to break up a counter-attack or dangerous offensive player, he did. The rest of the time, his job was to simply cut off switches and attempt to dictate where the opposing CMs could play. For the most part, he did this well.

Serious question, how familiar were you with MB before this WC?
Why do people keep asking this like it should be considered with how he played in the WC? I don't care what he did before the WC when I'm talking about how he did at the WC.

Because whether or not you'd seen him could reveal to us the type of player you expected him to be.
And your answer makes it clear you hadn't seen him, so it's likely your expectations of our 'best player' were that he'd score a bunch of goals or have a bunch of assists and flashy plays.
He's a grafter, and the cog of our team. He wasn't at his best, but he was still a good player for us, and typically, those who don't realize that are those who had never seen him play before and didn't get that they expected.

Uway, you're ignoring the fact that the Mexico game and the other moments where Bradley looked good (Nigeria, assist in Turkey game., etc) we were running a two man forward tandem. Jozy was key to that. I'll admit to being one of many on here who got over excited over one 45 minute sample during the Mexico game. But the system we played at the World Cup was completely different. You have to acknowledge that that change in our system, due to Jozy's injury, really hampered our outlets from the midfield and thus our attack. No midfielder in the world is going to succeed only having one outlet in Dempsey (who was doubled down by the CBs) while Bedoya and Zusi failed to get forward on anything resembling a regular basis. He was constantly pressured and outnumbered and didn't live up to our expectations. Based on these expectations he was disappointing. But did he have a bad tournament, as a player playing against elite opposition? No, I don't think so.

I watched the Belgium game at NOLA Brewery…the hate for Bradley was sickening…EVERY time he touched the ball, some douches would make a comment "don't frick it up Bradley!"
poor guy if he just didn't fumble the pass that allowed Portugal to score with 10 seconds left, he wouldn't have gotten near the hate

Pretty much. It should come as no surprise that the people who are saying MB is shite are the ones who don't watch soccer.

Here's an example of Bradley's many derps in the WC. This is in the Belgium game. Dempsey's gives him a great pass and he just can't control the ball.

wat.
That was a terrible fricking pass. Dempsey put it right under Bradley's feet to where he tripped over it.

Wrong. He was lackluster in the last World Cup. I had watched some U.S. games in between World Cups, but in no way have I ever felt that he was our best player, because he's not. I've never seen the guy make any "flashy plays" nor did I expect him to score any goals.
You know what I expect of a midfielder on our national team, regardless of whether I've seen him play before? I expect him not to make fundamental mistakes over and over and be able to find the best pass. And let's get this straight, I know good players make mistakes, but not as many as he did this WC. He made some good passes and some great passes (assist to Greene), but we will never be able to get past the round of 16 with that type of performance from a starting center mid. You just can't make that many mistakes in the WC.

We tie Germany if Jones could control the great pass Bradley gave him in the second half.
Posted on 7/8/14 at 1:15 pm to thesoccerfanjax
He didn't trip over it. Instead of pushing the ball in front of him, it hits off his toe. He actually slows down, runs around the ball for some reason, and takes an extra unneeded step before take his first touch. Instead he could have just kept on his path and touched it forward to the open space.

Yeah, Bradley actually did a nice job scooping a ball from behind his full speed run, controlling it, and keeping the run forward, which led to a shot on frame.
DERP. WHAT A DERP. PUT HIM AT RIGHT HALF OR SWEEPER HE SUX
