Voodoo you my friend are an idiot! If you think we lose this game you need to get a new hobby because you know nothing about football. LSU wins this game big. Come back and talk to me Aug. 31!

Based on what. Wisky is a very good team. We were supposed to whip Iowas arse and look at what happened. I think LSU wins but not a blowout at all. Maybe 10 points depending on turnovers and other things.

Why do people keep bringing up the Iowa game as if it is in any way similar to this year's Wisconsin game?
The two games couldn't be more different. We faced a veteran defense in Iowa with our backup QB.
This year, we have the veteran defense, and our QB, whoever he is, will have gotten a lot more reps than Jennings did before the Iowa game.
Jeez.

Ok. You are right. this years Wisky game isn't like the Iowa game. But, Wisky is still a real good team. Taking them likely is a big mistake imo. I don't care how many more reps our qb's have had. Its still the 1st game of the year and This team[LSU] Is still a pretty young team.

To be fair, Harris or Jennings will be facing a pretty talented and experienced Wisconsin secondary that returns three starters from a pass defense that finished 13th nationally.
The revamped front seven will need to take some pressure off the defensive backs. As I stated earlier in this thread, though, I think the replacements along the front seven is a tad overblown. It will be most difficult replacing Chris Borland, but five projected starters along the front seven have started multiple games in their career and saw plenty of meaningful minutes last season in Aranda's 3-4 defense.
No doubt that they will have to grow up in a hurry! Going against LSU in Houston has to concern Gary Andersen a little bit as far as getting these guys used to being full-time starters.

You're a great fan, hoopsgalore, and you rep your school well! I hope you stick around TD past teh game in Reliant.
I think the Badger's problems in replacing their entire front seven on defense is aggravated in going up against one of the strongest units of the LSU team, the OL. That same OL mauled a veteran Iowa defense ranked 11th in the country. And did it without a credible passing threat, due to our starter being knocked out in the last game of the season.
Our backup QB just was not ready to be the starter, and had a terrible game. We'll be much improved at QB for this game, simply because we have no where to go but up.
The key to the game will if LSU's RB's can replace Jeremy Hill, who ran all over that 11th ranked Iowa defense.
We'll see. I predict LSU wins comfortably.

I like the many different boards TD offers. I've lurked around for the past few years, but have really only started posting over the past several months. Definitely will stick around!
I also see your end of the equation. The young Wisconsin defensive front will have its hands full with La'el Collins and company.
What do we say about the young, albeit talented, defensive front of LSU? Like LSU, Wisconsin returns four starters along the offensive line. Using the same opponent you cited in your post, Wisconsin ran the ball for 218 yards (4.8 yards per carry) against Iowa in 2013 and LSU ran for 220 yards (4.3 yards per carry) against that same defense.
Hoping for a good game. I can certainly understand the optimism of LSU fans in this one. Will look like a home game when you consider the alumni base of LSU in the Houston area.

I'm not saying the Badgers don't have good players in the secondary, but Big 10 teams don't exactly light it up through the air.

I'm not sure how much Iowa respected your passing game, but the Hawkeyes had eight men in the box the whole game vs LSU. We had our worst passing performance of the season in that bowl.

You are absolutely right about B1G quarterbacks. The SEC was littered with awesome QBs last season. It was fascinating to watch. Wisconsin went up against SC in the Capital One Bowl and got absolutely torched by Connor Shaw. It was the perfect storm. Shaw finally looked 100% healthy, Sojourn Shelton was up to those 'typical' freshman mistakes and Mike Caputo hardly played after suffering a head injury against Indiana a few weeks prior.
Not to say LSU won't win (because odds are in your favor!), but I don't think Jennings/Harris torch Wisconsin's secondary, either. Absolutely a lot of talent out there on your side, but also a lot of inexperience at both QB and WR.

Those comments sound exactly like what we LSU fans heard prior to the 2013 season.
Last year, LSU became the first school in the SEC to have a 3,000 yd QB, a 1,000 yd RB, and two 1,000 yd WR's in the same year.
LSU OC Cam Cameron doin' work in his first year. I expect LSU to have at least a decent day through the air vs Wisconsin, and a big day on the ground.

Iowa also mainly played eight in the box.
Joel Stave has a couple pretty bad tendencies: (1) staring down his receiver and (2) holding onto the ball too long. He was a scapegoat all season for Wisconsin fans due to his erratic play.
I don't have an opinion as to who starts the season for Wisconsin. In a game of this magnitude right off the bat, I would assume that Andersen gives Stave the nod because of his 19 starts. Stave's skill-set is not what Andersen prefers, though.

I'm surprised those comments were made. The season before last, Mettenberger started all 13 games, Beckham Jr. started 12 of 13 games, and Landry led LSU in receptions and TD receptions.
That seems to be a wealth of experience in the passing game that returned in 2013.

He doesn't think we will lose. He just isn't writing off a very formidable opponent like you seem to be. On paper sure it looks like it could be a 2 TD LSU win, but that's why they play the games.
Things happen. We were a Hail Mary away from losing to fricking Arkansas at home just a few months ago. That team went 0-8 in the SEC.
Let me remind you we are playing a ranked opponent with an NFL running back. They aren't Tulane.

You didn't see our bowl game against Clemson. It was a cluster****. Mettenberger had trouble completing passes to wide open WRs. The OL couldn't give him any time either. I think Mett got sacked about 6 times. The funny thing is we still led for most of the game. Our offense wasn't close to what it was in 2013. I think our best game in 2012 was against Bama, lol.

I understand that. Your scoring output improved by an entire touchdown and Cam Cameron is a proven OC. It takes a hell of an offense to produce a 3,000 yard passer, a 1,000 yard back, and two 1,000 yard receivers. Wisconsin's former OC, Paul Chryst (now HC at Pitt - bless his heart), did it at Oregon State several years back.
Anyway, my overlying point was that although your passing offense had some struggles in 2012, the top three players in the passing game returned in 2013. I don't see the same carryover from 2013 to 2014.

Both defenses are regrouping up front but LSU's talent is superior. The Tiger backs should find plenty of running room. Conversely,Chavis will use his speed at Linebacker and safety to great advantage in slowing down the Badger offense. The Tigers will likely outgain Wisconsin on the ground, including some nice yardage from the young QB's. LSU special teams should also have a big advantage. Total offense; LSU 450; Wisconsin 300; Final score; Tigers 41- Badgers 24.

Are Mingo, Brooks and Mathieu coming back for this game
How many starts did that defensive line have prior to that game?
Montgomery was injured within the first couple of games in 2010 and missed the whole season. Mingo was a situational pass rusher at best in 2010. Like I said before, the only known on that defense before the season, were Mathieu and Claiborne.
This 2014 team is nearly identical to the 2011 team prior to both seasons. Like I said in another thread, the only major advantages are that we had a very experienced WR #1, 2 very experienced QBs (nobody believed they could be that mistake free though), and Mathieu.
Maybe the chips fall into place like 2011, maybe they don't.

I just don't see him getting that Many carries so soon. Look at Hill's 1st year he was basically a blocking back until the South Carolina game.
Hill's situation.
-One year not playing or practicing any football
-Alfred Blue, Kenny Hilliard, Spencer Ware, Michael Ford, Terrance Magee ahead of him
-North Texas
-redshirt junior QB
-4 of 6 leading WRs returning, all with at least 5 catches, one with 41
-
Fournette's situation
-6'1 226 sub 4.5 40, WR hands, just played football a couple months ago
-Terrance Magee, regressed Kenny Hilliard ahead of him
-Wisconsin team that brings back 3/4ths of their starting secondary, but zero of their starting front 7
-True freshman or 1 start sophomore QB
-8 returning catches from two WRs
-4/5th of a road grating OL
I mean all signs point to him being needed really badly. It's like last year when we thought we wouldn't need Hill early, then game one showed us different.
