I'm really excited to be opening up with a quality opponent. It should be a good game. I think we win, but they can run the ball. Our interior D better bring their lunch pale with them. I don't think they'll be able to stop us for 4 quarters on the ground. If a few turnovers and some special teams plus and the game goes who makes them.

Ok. You are right. this years Wisky game isn't like the Iowa game. But, Wisky is still a real good team. Taking them likely is a big mistake imo. I don't care how many more reps our qb's have had. Its still the 1st game of the year and This team[LSU] Is still a pretty young team.

Wisky is a run game and a secondary right now. That is not a good team, it's an ok team. People are basing this off of what they did last year, this isn't last year. They aren't playing the usually shitty arse school they schedule for the first game every year.

UMass
Northern Iowa
UNLV
@UNLV
Northern Illinois
Akron
Washington State

This is going to be too much for them coming down here and trying to beat a power running team like LSU with no front 7 and no experience of opening the season with a big boy.

How many starts did that defensive line have prior to that game?

Montgomery was injured within the first couple of games in 2010 and missed the whole season. Mingo was a situational pass rusher at best in 2010. Like I said before, the only known on that defense before the season, were Mathieu and Claiborne.

This 2014 team is nearly identical to the 2011 team prior to both seasons. Like I said in another thread, the only major advantages are that we had a very experienced WR #1, 2 very experienced QBs (nobody believed they could be that mistake free though), and Mathieu.

Maybe the chips fall into place like 2011, maybe they don't.

To Add: I remember a relatively obscure interview prior to the Oregon game where Chavis said it "was the fastest defense he'd ever coached".

that was proven in the Oregon game and basically through the whole 2011 season. Believe me, I'm watching for any indication or verbiage similar to that closely. If Chavis starts offering compliments, he's really impressed.

2012, the top three players in the passing game returned in 2013. I don't see the same carryover from 2013 to 2014.

As A Wisky fan you will not see many balls in the air from LSU. Jennings is not proven enough. Miles will play it close to the vest being the 1st game. Unless the timing between Jennings and his new wr's has improved bigtime.

Bennie Logan was another guy that exploded into the scene during that Oregon game after a redshirt season and not playing much at all for his second season

One of the huge question marks was how he would hold up, and I remember vividly the announcers gushing over Logan. I can easily see that happen for 1 or 2 guys that were in that loaded Dline recruitment class year before last

I am not saying we don't need him right away, its just the way Miles deals with Freshman. Now from a lot of responses in the thread it looks like we may not need fornette in this game anyway and win going away.

So why did Hill not really play at all and then Explode in the South Carolina game. Are you telling me he just got real good? I understand he was not on the team the year before and not able to practice, But he went from nothing to a star that Saturday afternoon. The dude was just as good at the start of the season.

Would be nice but both teams will be running which will limit possessions and run time down quickly. LSU will have young QB mistakes. Hard to believe LSU wins by more than two scores

Talent wise and on paper, LSU has the better and faster athletes across the board. But this is a young team and its still the 1st game. When LSU played Oregon to start the 2011 season, I had much more confidence of a big win then I do with this season opener.

Umm what? Players get better in practice and through game reps throughout the season, he was certainly a better player for that South Carolina game than the season opener. He didn't play early on due to many factors, none of which are from some bogus rule you think Miles has about freshman

We had other backs and he either didn't know a lot of plays or was a bit out of shape. Your point is really dumb bc he was a freshman in the game you're mentioning. Miles plays more freshman than almost any cfb coach. Abandon your point, for it is moot

And LF7 is not a freshman? If he gets more than 5 carries against Wisky I will be the 1st one on here saying I was wrong. Some of you Lsu fans think he can come in and get 200 yds the 1st game . Sad.

Well im not "one of those fans." LF will play. The reason i responded to your post is bc you said that Miles doesnt play freshmen, which he clearly does. Now you're saying he doesn't play them enough snaps. It takes time to teach a playbook. Im starting to think you have no idea what you're even trying to argue.

LF will get a lot of carries if he knows the play book and has shown good ball security. Its one position that freshman can get down pretty quickly, RB that is....

Yup. Running backs are different. What happens if he fumbles the 1st carry? Does he bench him like he did to Hill in last years Ole Miss game? Do you really think that Harris will start the 1st game even though he may look better in fall workouts? I assure you that Jennings will take the 1st snap in the opener and will play 99% of the game.
