Don't be ridiculous. What is notable though, is that Chavis said on the radio yesterday that his system is designed in a way that the middle linebacker should lead the team in tackles. If that's the system, then the guy he trots out there has to be able to make the tackles and make plays. So Chavis must endeavor to put an impact player in the lineup at what he considers his most important position. If Welter is that guy, great. If he isn't, you have to find the guy that can fill that role and quick. It is too important to his scheme.
sums it up best.

I'll add that part of what has made Chavis successful over the years is very likely making the tough personnel calls... even if it's a lesser of two evils choice.

Sure you are. Racists should hold no quarter around here. To ignore it is to condone it.

This is part of a conversation where there is anger that Southern University's Band had the audacity to spell out the name of the President of the United States during their performance at a Bayou Classic game. A brief reading of the conversations will clearly show the mindset of the participants, including the Mr. "I'm Innocent" Tigrlee. And its not "We Are the World".

I think DJ was okay last year overall. He had some awful stretches, but he also played better down the stretch. Of course he played better against Iowa because Big10 football is right up his alley. Not an intended slight by any means, but I think he's an All-American at OSU, Wisky, PSU, etc. The athletes in the SEC are just a notch above his capabilities, IMO.

I will say that he caught waaaay too much shite last year when guys like Freak and Barrow were noticeably worse. Barrow looked helpless and clueless on a lot of snaps last season but only caught half the flak as Welter

And that's the rub right there. Chavis has said the middle linebacker is the most important position in his defense. If we have a guy at that position who cannot physically make plays, then our defense is gonna suffer.

I understand how important it is to line guys up properly, but do we not have someone else with the physical tools to do the job who can learn how to get guys lined up?

Again, I admire Welter's work ethic and dedication, but it was maddening watching him be in position to make a play and not make it last season, or not be able to get off a block to make a play. I just hope that Chavis makes a change if Welter doesn't play up to SEC standards at the position this season. Sorry, but 25 unassisted tackles for a middle linebacker is not very good.

As bad as we were on defense last year I get it, you people need somebody to blame it on.

Problem is a couple guys going into the year that we all had high expectations underperform ..same level perhaps welter did, maybe even more bc more was expected.
For some odd reason those players get a pass.
I can think of 2-3 reasons why this happens... But it really doesn't matter now.
Those players are gone for the most part.
At least 31 has another year to redeem himself and help the team. Let's all hope that's what happens.

This is absolutely ridiculous considering Kevin minter had 40 in 2011 and 75 in 2012. That proved nothing and was a jab at DJ with something you pulled out of your arse. Some people need to be positive and believe in dj and Chavis' decision making. It's truly inspiring how many of us could step in and be the LSU defensive coordinator right now.

This sounds like some of the retards on the Poli Board. If they had spelled out Reagan those same retards would be waving the flag and congratulating themselves about what 'great Americans' they all are.

Minter actually had 55 in 2012, and 21 in 2011. the 75 was his assisted tackles in 2012.

Welter's 2013 compares favorably to Minter's 2011, though their circumstances weren't exactly the same. Welter started more games and Hatcher played quite a bit more than Louis (Welter's backup) did.

with a yr under his belt, I think Welter will be improved as a 2nd yr starter. maybe not the jump Minter made (realistically, not many can do that), but I can see him at or near 100 tackles this yr.

I think the coaches are waiting on the jump because if he makes it, he will be a great player. He has everything except the physical tools, which unfortunately are the hardest to develop. Many players on D caught shite last year. Freak, Mills, Martin to name a few were all ridiculed for poor play last year. Welter got it more because he played like shite for the majority of the year. I've never seen a MLB find blockers to drive him out of play like he did last year. Best case scenario for LSU is for him to make the jump and never look back. Hope he does, but I really think he ends up being replaced because he can't keep up.

Yeah, just slightly different
How many games did he start and play the majority of in 2011?

He's a senior so you would hope he improves a this is his last year of playing football.

While I hope this happens, I don't think there's any way this occurs.
