I don't know what guidance Meeks is providing now, but he was pretty vague and open about what we could choose as a topic. He said he wanted us to present evidence that we had learned about Strategic Management and could apply that knowledge.

I wrote my paper on Blockbuster's demise against Netflix (and Redbox) and pointed out failures of the CEO to use the principles we learned from the class. I also offered my own suggestions of what Blockbuster should have done instead. My paper was about 2,400 words / 6 pages in total (including the abstract and references page). I received an 100% on the paper.

A co-worker of mine wrote about our company and how it has used Strategic Management to be successful. I don't think he received an 100% but he did get an 'A'. I also think his was closer to 2,000 words.

I wrote my Synthesis Paper about Mintzberg's 5 Ps and how I applied them to the writing process for my paper. Scored a high A on it. He just wants you to show that you've learned something in the course.

I've read that it is wise to take MKT 701 solo. Do you think this is the case with taking the course wtih Darrat? I'm trying to decide if I should double up.

I wrote about the importance of strategic management using the book "Playing to Win" as guidance. Mostly spoke of Proctor & Gamble, but also used personal references based on the companies I have worked for. I used the weekly writing assignments as the main input.

ISDS 702 is easily the best class in the whole Data Analytics track and, as mentioned, one of the best classes in the whole program.

My only 2 gripes are:
1. He occasionally has a question or 2 on the weekly quizzes that I would argue are not covered adequately (or at all). However, he drops your grades for your worst performing week, so I think that probably balances out.

2. The class could be a bit more challenging. It's not easy, but I don't feel like I'm being pushed that far beyond my comfort zone. I do have some experience in this field already, though.

As far as additional pursuits in this realm outside of LSUS, I'm interesting in the GA Tech / edX Analytics micromasters, which I'm sure I've posted about here before. However, I think I need to beef up my math and statistics foundation a bit before pursuing that.

I’m in ISDS 705 with Gibbs right now. My first course in the program. It’s been easy so far. I have to do all my work on weekends. Takes 6-7 hours per week. I’ve got a “A.

I'm currently registered for MADM760 with Meeks for AP2, my last class. There are currently 3 options to choose from. I know Meeks is the known entity and considered a great prof by all accounts but I can't help to wonder if the work loads of McLaughin or Heller are any less. I'm gonna be jacked up for work during that term and would like to sleep at some point. So between Meeks, McLaughlin or Heller, who will give me the best chance of survival from a work load POV? Thoughts?

Hello All.. I am trying to decide synthesis paper topic for MADM760 (Dr. Meeks), need few inputs from others who have already taken the class

is it necessary to perform strategy analysis on a company?
how many words can get me 300/300 considering that the paper will be meaningful not just word counts..

Any other advise which you guys can provide!!

I wrote mine about Harley Davidson and their current struggles. I covered a lot of the topics we studied in class, as it's a "synthesis paper," but I didn't do a full analysis or anything like that.

Word count is about ~4000 including the abstract (about 8 full pages) plus a couple pages of references. I aced the paper, so while I can't speak to minimums required, this paper was something he liked. From reading everyone else's responses, it looks like I may have seriously overwritten for this assignment.

This course must've gotten better after I took it. When I took it, Koksal was all over the place and unorganized.

It definitely did. I think the change from 2 cumulative exams to weekly quizzes has helped at the very least. I've spoken to several other students in the class and they feel the same way as me. All of us have remarked that we wish all 3 of the Data Analytics electives were this good.

Of course, our opinions could change if the next 3 quizzes are wildly unfair, but so far they've been good.

For me, Meeks 760 is no more work than MADM 701. The flow of work connects more in 760 throughout the whole course like a running theme so even if it feels like more work, you already know what to write instead of a fresh new topic to tackle each week. In essence, after a few weeks, it seems like less work. Checkout coursehero.com

Thanks. I was hoping to understand this from a workload differences POV based on prof for the same class (MADM760 in this case) rather than comparing to other classes in the program.

I can tell you 760 with Bigler was a lot of work. I had Meeks for 751 and wouldn’t consider workload required by one professor to have been notably more demanding than the other. I will say if you’re seeking the path of least resistance you’re not getting everything out of the program that you could and my advice to you is to take Meeks whenever possible.

I agree ISDS 702 is pretty good. My only (minor) gripe is that red color he likes to write with on that gray background doesn't contrast very much, so it's not always easy to see what it is he's writing. Otherwise, it's been a great class.

I can see that being a problem if you're watching it in the little embedded window but I find it to be perfectly clear when it's full screen. Is that how you're watching it?
