I found the exam in FIN 710 to be difficult as well. Several of my answers to the conceptual true/false questions were guesswork at best.

And I think I know which question you are referring to, because I had one that asked me to solve for standard deviation, and none of the answers made sense.

Good luck on the rest of the semester, everyone!

Pretty sure the one about.. What price could it fall to... didn't have the right answer available for selection either. I emailed him, so we will see.

Wolf, I didn't schedule my proctor U time yet. Were there a lot of choices available or should I get to that ASAP?

Al, yea I emailed him about that one so we will see. It surely would be nice to get a couple points back.

Monday, I would go ahead and schedule the test ASAP. The specific time I wanted was not available, so I had to choose a different one. What time is everybody else taking the test in ISDS 705? I'm at 3:50 central time. Will anybody that has taken the class before be willing to share what the tests are like? I have no clue how to study for this class.

I scheduled ProctorU for ISDS 705 exam at 2pm PST.

To second what lsusports said, if there is anyone who has previously taken ISDS 705 with Lin or knows someone who has, it would be greatly appreciated to get some feedback and insights on how they studied for the exams and what to expect.

I was able to finish MADM 710 last semester and we didn't use ProctorU. We just did the regular Proctor without having someone actually watching us. The tests are tough but there's plenty of ways to make up for extra points. Be wary on the discussion forums, grading is somewhat inconsistent and I had to e-mail the coach various times to fix my grade for marked errors I did not make. Best of luck!

On another note, I'm taking Acct 701 w/ Ambrosio next semester. Can anyone provide insight ?

I had the class with a different professor but I thought it was the easiest in the entire program.

The weekly assignments make up the majority of the points in the class.

Had 701 with Ambrosio and I agree probably the easiest class in the program. Fairly light work load and straight forward. FYI, I don't have an ACCT background either

I had Ambrosio for ACCT 701 and he was nice and the class was super easy, even more so if you have any accounting experience or took the Acct Pre-req class. (And, honestly, I have a co-worker who took it with neither of those things and he also said it was easy.)

You have 2 homework assignments per a week but they're mostly definition based or you're simply entering data from financial statements in the back of the book or plugging those numbers into some simple equations. On average they took me about 20 minutes to complete. HOWEVER, the very last homework assignment in week 7 is easy but tedious and it took me a couple of hours. Just budget your time accordingly because you'll be used to the HW assignments being quick affairs up to that point.

The tests are all multiple choice and are also mostly definition based with some light calculations here and there. The only watch out is the exam time limit, which I think was around 45 min. People on the class message board complained of running out of time but that wasn't an issue for me or the co-worker I mentioned above.

Thanks for the insight. I'm definitely going to take ACCT 701 Fall 1, but I'm trying to decide if I want to pair it. My original plan was to pair it with FIN 701, but being football season I still want to have some social life. I have very little of that right now pairing MADM 760 and ECON 705, neither of which are too difficult, but 760 does require a decent amount of time. These are my first 2 courses in the program, fyi.

Thoughts on ACCT 701 and FIN 701 together? Best to stick with 1 course at a time if I want an outside life? The consensus seems to be that ACCT 701 is the easiest course in the program. What is the stance on FIN 701? A lot of busy work? etc.

AstroTiger,

If you get FIN701 w/Vines there is no busy work only 4 tests and thats your grade. His teaching style was refreshing if you have an overload of busywork/assignments every week like ECON705 and MADM760.

Astro Tiger,

I paired ACCT 701 and FIN 701 this past spring AP1 and it wasn't too bad. I would definitely reccomend it. I would finish all ACCT 701 course material on sunday morning in about an hour, then have the rest of the week to focus on FIN 701.

brentb71 - did you take MADM 715 with Wren? I'm thinking about taking MADM 715 and MADM 751 (with Meeks - I've taken him before) together, but not sure how feasible it'll be since I'm not familiar with Wren. Thanks.

Does anybody know if Hsieh (FIN 710) awards points after reviewing test scores? Like if 90% of class missed a question does he consider giving credit for the question?

Haven't had him before but from what I gather of him so far I'd say highly unlikely. I don't know why LSUS even lists an instructor for it.... a grad assistant can administer it just the same. This is a self taught class. I feel sorry for those who can't grasp it.

I'll be doubling FIN 701 and ACCT 701 Astro. Vines is refreshing and from what I've heard and read on Ambrosio, we should be perfectly fine watching football games
