for the last few weeks every time i lay down to sleep I have to hold back a cough from a tickle in my throat. once i start coughing its a good 10-15 minutes before i can stop coughing every min or so. is this just allergies or could there be something else wrong.

1/2 bourbon
1/4 honey
1/4 lemon juice

Works better for me than codeine syrup ever has

Daughter has been having a similar issue, and the doctor put her on allergy medicine. She also asthma so that probably makes it worse.

You have sleep aids....or you need them....one or the other.

Are you on any rx blood pressure meds?

I had the same issue in April/May. Took some Robutussin as needed until it subsided. That did the trick every time.

Is it always at night? Are you also short of breath at all? Any chest pain? Does sitting up help?

Could be one of two things. 1. Acid reflux. Do u have heart burn throughout the day? 2. Nodule on thyroid gland. Sounds wierd but that happened to me last year. I did not sleep for two weeeks. Everytime I laid dowm and was about to dose off would wake up coughing. Easy fix though.

Go see an ENT.

Change your pillow.

Seriously. There may be dust mites in your pillow which causes allergic reactions in many people.

I didn't take anything but did drink a lot of water. Was gone in 5 days

Coughing usually happens when you're lying on your back. Lay on your side and it should minimize it.

This will sound weird.. Get some Vick's VapoRub and coat the bottom of your feet with it. Put on some socks. Enjoy your immediate cough free night's sleep.
