These people aren't interested in learning about the game. Only in looking cool in their Stevie G shirt while riding their fixie to the pub to drink some PBRs. That's the root of my problem with them.
You're assuming that, but even assuming it's true, why let it rattle your cage?

So what I'm gathering from this thread is that's their is a large group of people that bandwagon off European leagues because American soccer is not good enough for them and fear wants them all to feel bad about themselves.

I mean, I guess I just don't see it as a problem if Americans pay more attention to foreign leagues because they have more talented teams.

I could be off base here, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the MLS teams have a solid fan base, its just a local fan base. If they want to spread those fan bases throughout the States, they need to bring in more talented players and raise the quality of play.

I'm not assuming it. I know some of these people personally. It doesn't bother me until they shite on other leagues, as if they have become some kind of soccer conosseur in the two years they've been watching it. These are the same people that refuse to call it soccer, BTW.

Yes, it's obvious and I'm being obtuse when they say it. First, you have to understand the types of people who say this kind of thing. They usually have just started watching the game in the last few years, know nothing about it, and really only watch it so they can wear their Liverpool jersey to the pub on Saturday mornings with the rest of their hipster friends. These are the "hipster soccer fans" that soccer haters stereotype all soccer fans as.

You're making a huge generalization here. Sure I'm sure there are some that are just bandwagoning, but that doesn't mean that a majority of those fans aren't genuine fans of teams in those leagues because they love the way they play the sport.

I also think European leagues are on TV more. At least that was the case a few years ago with the soccer channel. Seeing the talent of those teams really opened my eyes to the true beauty of soccer.

Shows the problem right here. Foreign soccer is on TV in the US more than our own league.

I do think you're right that it may have changed though because I feel like I see MLS on TV more now than I did before.

BPL is on NBC Saturday and Sunday mornings, every week. MLS has one national game a week usually on Saturday or Sunday nights. And it's usually a west coast game that comes on at 11 PM eastern. MLS needs a better TV deal for sure.

It hasn't changed. BPL signed a HUGE deal with NBC last year. There are hours upon hours of BPL on regular cable every week. Which is a great thing, BTW.

I agree. when I wanted to become a soccer fan after the Olympics I was trying to find mls games to watch and there were none on tv. pretty much the reason I didn't continue my fandom. they lost a potential fan because of this
