2000.

All my friends had one, gave in to peer pressure and got one. It was a Qualcom phone and was heavy like a brick- if I wore loose shorts, they would sag on the side where the phone was in the pocket. Had the faux leather case with the velcro that made it even bigger.

This was also the year I got my first computer.

Got both just before I hit 30.

I got a Trakphone in 8th grade which would've even 2004 because I was playing a lot of baseball tournaments out of town and away from them.

It never had minutes on it unless I was out of town. Got my first "real" phone in 2006 when I started driving

2000. It was the free one that came with the plan. Did the job. To this day I'm not enamored with cell phones. I have a smart phone but never quite understood the iphone vs samsung vs windows phone vs google phone vs whatever else is out there battle. It's just a damn device and they pretty much all do the same things.

I got the StarTAC right when it came out in the mid 90's. My first phone was the predecessor, the MicroTAC in 92
