FWIW, I make 60ishK and my fiance makes 40k. We go out A LOT so we haven't saved much, but we are changing that. I want to make 100k by the time I'm 30 (I'm 26) because thats when we want to try and have kids and she won't be working while they are infants.
Hardcore saving starts in 2015. Too many weddings, including ours, for the remainder of 2014.

First off, the Age of Enlightenment started in the late 1600s, so I wouldn't be alive for most of it, but I'm talking about general intelligent understanding of world politics, issues, history, and the universe. In the 1600s, dinosaurs were unknown, and the scant few fossils found were thought to be from the giants mentioned in the Bible. Geocentrism was still the accepted line of thought with regard to the solar system. Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach had not even been born yet, though Bach was born in 1685, so that counts him out. Humans still had a tenuous grasp on history and accuracy of historical texts. Many people still thought the earth was flat.
As for entertainment, see above regarding myriad composers.
Life expectancy -- Queen Anne, ruler of England from 1702 to 1707, died at 49. She succeeded William III, who died in 1702 at the age of 51. Louis XIII ruled France from 1610 to 1643 and died at 42.

As king, I would do what i want, kill who i want, frick who i want, invade who i want and live the life that would demand history books are written about me.
Assuming it is my mind that I have now, I could guarantee that people wouldn't want to kill me as I would help improve standards of living making everyone love me and nobody wan to overthrow me e.g. imagine passing the laws that lead to a primitive sewage system/help the cleanliness of water in the 17th century, you would be a god.
I'd help discover America and ensure that I'm getting rich from that.

I personally would rather be middle class today but that is because I'm risk adverse.
If you have no major medical problems, you'd have a better life as a king or a rich person in the 17th century - even without an iPhone *gasp*

Middle class without a doubt.
Back the 1600's everyone smelled awful, you could die of just about anything at any moment, and there were no painkillers. Sure, they had alcohol but it wasn't any good either. And there's nothing quite like bad dental pain to make a king's life miserable.
No a/c, the food was the same everyday although as King you probably had access to spices.
You could have all the women you wanted but of course they had syphilis, gonorrhea and who knows what else. No thanks.
