Agree. No matter how well parents try to do their job, some things are beyond their control.

My point was that insanity doesnt require bad parenting.

My point was, this guy had been in therapy since he was 8 years old. So at 8 years old his parents decided, we need someone to help us raise him. Tell us what we are doing wrong.

All his life he has been told he is screwed up. He finally proved them right.

I'd say this wasn't a well adjusted young man, and you can blame whatever you want. I'd say it's a combination of factors but people have to make it political.

Some children are beyond help from traditional parenting. A psychologically disturbed child wont "shape up" no matter how many times you beat them.

That is correct.

However, if you take a normal rambunctious 8 year old boy and start telling him he is screwed up in the head, and you do that for the next 14 years. Do you know what you get? An adult who really is screwed up in the head.

My folks had this special way of explaining right from wrong. They called it an 'arse whoopin'. It worked pretty well even with 4 boys in the house.

'arse whoopins' require someone around to administer them. Apparently, ER didn't have either of his parents around often enough for any 'arse whoopin'' consistency.

I guess they're getting tired of using 'bigot' to describe any guy they disagree with.

The left sure does love the use of buzzwords though.

Why are we assuming he was a normal 8 year old? At a minimum we know he was clinically diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and bipolar disorder. He was not a victim of confirmation bias.

Additionally, using your logic, child psychology and psychiatry should be done away with because it merely makes children more likely to end up screwed up. This is simply absurd.

And for the record, you are just reinforcing my point. You are trying just as hard to politicize this as liberals are.

There is something wrong with you. Probably bad parenting.

Parenting is always trial and error because no approach will work with every child. I have no adoubt mistakes were made by his parents, therapists or whoever, but I made mistakes with my children as well.

Really hard to see what some kids are harboring inside

No, I'm down with the bad parenting. No politics about it.

They stuck their kid in a therapist's office and told themselves they were doing a good job of parenting.

I read his 'manifesto'(I was bored, what can I say), and he hated everyone, even his family and friends. At least he hated his friends when he still had them. He was every kind of 'ist' there is.

Too many arse whoopins. I not only had parents who acted like parents instead of friends, I had 3 older brothers. I took a lot of arse whoopins.

If he was in need of therapy, and it seems like he was, they were doing a good job. How much more fricked up could he have been had they not done so?

He had his mom around quite a bit. She just catered to his every tantrum.

Upon receiving the manifesto, the therapist should have immediately notified the police. Therapists aren't bound by the code of confidentiality in this situation. Instead, they notified the mother first, from what I understand. It may not have prevented this from happening but the authorities would have known about his plans sooner and perhaps could have intervened before it all went down.
