I am a firm believer that too much therapy or medication is as bad or worse than none. Especially if the person has been misdiagnosed from the start.
They were well aware of his insane ramblings on YouTube. After 14 years of therapy and the ramblings are growing even more unbalanced and threatening? At some point someone has to step up and say, this is not working. Maybe we need to hospitalize this person.
Hell, they just bought him a BMW and said, "it will be alright, son."

Upon receiving the manifesto, the therapist should have immediately notified the police. Therapists aren't bound by the code of confidentiality in this situation. They notified the mother.
They are actually supposed to notify police if they feel the person is a threat to themselves or someone else. It isn't supposed to be "notify police if you want' situation.

This is true. They are under mandate unless it's different in California for some reason.

At least one of the parents did, in fact, notify police a couple of weeks previously that they were concerned, if I'm not mistaken. The authorities said he didn't meet the criteria required to take him into custody.
I fricking loathe this low rent, ignorant homespun wisdom about "arse whooping" and straightening a kid out when someone doesn't have a fricking clue as to what was going on that home or what the family was dealing with. Schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, sociopathy, etc, are very, very real. No amount of "arse whooping" will take care of it.

Typical liberal whine. Let me clue in your stupid arse. Nobody give a frick what you think.
Low rent? You white trash piece of garbage, I'm sorry if your parents did not believe in believe in discipline. That explains why your sorry is a liberal in need of a nanny state.

Christ you're pathetic. I very much believe in discipline, and I had plenty of it. I was on the receive end of a belt more than once.
Honestly, and not to make it personal . . . but to make it personal . . . your posts truly make you seem like just another redneck goober.

You came in with your low rent comments.
Now you play it just like a liberal. Try and play victim.
You made it personal. Be man enough to own it.

A lot more and he wouldn't be a liberal needing a nanny state to help and protect him cradle to grave.

So you're saying I would have actually tried harder in College Prep Chemistry? You're probably right. I'd be making more money now.

Corporal punishment has its place with discipline. But Eliot's problem wasn't a discipline problem. This kid lacked age appropriate social skills. He tried to teach himself these skills vicariously instead of through first hand interactions. One can easily see this through his videos and I viewed only one. His personal 'ego boundaries' never expanded or developed much further from infant stage.
Step by step, his continual lack of guidance with age appropriate emotional/psychological role models, social feedback, emotional processing, and development created a beast. He was very sick.
