NO! Not good.

Buy a Toddy cold drip system. Not that expensive. It brews overnight (about 12 hours, really) and produces a pitcher of fairly concentrated coffee that you keep in the refrigerator. Most of the acidity is removed and that's key for iced coffee. You add a little water, ice and milk to each glass and it's great.

ETA: The iced coffee craze in N.O. began with P. J's under its original owner and this is what they use. As does a few others, and it's legit.

I pour hot coffee over ice every day.

If I go to a coffee shop I get a double shot of espresso poured over ice. I fricking love America. Drinking room temperature or hot things is for savages.

Just cold brew. That will cut the bitterness.

For the love of god do not hot brew coffee and pour over ice or let chill.

Cold Brew Coffee is as simple as it name. You brew it cold.

1 part coffee grounds (course ground)
5 parts water

Let sit over night and strain the next morning. Add water if too strong. Add simple syrup and or milk/cream if desired.

There is a reason cold brew coffee is strong and smooth... its not burnt by water and still has all of the essential oils of the bean intact. All of these things are removed from hot brew.

There's a whole lot of sarcasm for a seriously good question. Some people are just snobbish pricks. Ignore them.

If you want GOOD TASTING iced coffee (not the garbage brew and chill), then get a Toddy as suggested.... OR invest in a phin. They are cheap, brew one cup at a time, brew it strong and makes a great rich coffee even when some ice melts in it. Sweeten it as desired, add some cold milk or cream and then just pour it over a glass full of ice.

You don't even need a Toddy. Put half a lb ground coffee in a gallon pitcher full of water and let it sit overnight. Strain out the grounds with wire mesh strainer and cheesecloth. Add more water If too strong. A tsp of gelatin will give It a silky texture. Use sweetened condensed milk instead of simple syrup. Finish with half and half or heavy cream.

Dropping in late to the party (was in Alex today, ugh) and wanted to add my vote for the Toddy cold-brew system.

Not sure if anyone mentioned the importance of grind, roast and quality of coffee: course-ground, Italian roast, and something fancy -- sourced in my case from Magpie, who will kindly course-ground a bag of suggested beans.
