I just still think people could look around and maybe put 2 and 2 together that fcking like monkeys and having several kids before learning some kind of job skill is going to lead to bad things.

And yes, there are liquer stores in nice areas. They are called grocery stores.

I'm a complete nurture believer. I think any infant, without severe mental disabilities, can be tutored to be fairly successful given the right environment and instruction. IMO.

I don't believe criminals just are but are made.

bullshite. Their families survived before they moved out. Now there's one less mouth to feed.

ETA: Unless you're talking about taking care of the illegitimate children they had in highschool. If that's the case, their "environment" had nothing to do with it.

It's a problem across the country and if you don't know that then you're just being ignorant, or you just don't pay attention to the rest of the world.

Does the upper-middle class white kid in the suburbs have the same chance at becoming the CEO of a major corporation as a kid growing up on the south side of Chicago?

Of course. Only the corporations are somewhat different for each kid: Fortune 500 for the white kid; Drug Kingpin Inc. for the ghetto kid.

I read recently that it's harder than ever for poor people in this country to escape a life of poverty, crime, etc. I wouldn't doubt it.

From your article:

quote:

But judging cause and effect is not easy.

"I don't think the one was the cause," Springer said. "People didn't go in to buy stores thinking they'd be able to sell more" in a poor neighborhood.

Personal responsibility is the problem.

It's poor decisions that lead to having a family to support right after high school

The govt will pay a lower income minority single mother tons of money to attend college.

yes. I think environment plays a huge part in it. Not that they can't get out just that they are conditioned not to take advantage of the opportunity.

Correct. They survived. Just barely though. Having to worry about your next meal or living with no electricity half the time isn't exactly what most people can let happen while they go to school full-time and aren't able to work as much. It's one less mouth to feed, but not all the mouths may have been getting fed in the first place.

I'm not saying they have kids to support, although a lot do. I'm talking about the immediate family. Parents, siblings, maybe grandparents, etc.
