You didn't go with the NFL team in your own backyard?

Well, in his defense, it is the Falcons.

No, but I have a valid reason. One of the things I HATE most in sports are bandwagon hoppers. I despise that type of fan. I'm 28...my whole entire life nobody I knew gave the slightest amount of a frick about the falcons until 1998. Then the whole state jumped on board. And then, and still to this day, those same people vary their vocal-ness towards the team depending on how good they are. When they're good they go to the games, post on fb, etc. When they're bad they won't even watch on TV and might not even know what time they play. I refused to associate myself with the falcons. I will say that I don't dislike the team itself, and don't mind seeing them do well because they are the home town team. But I wanted someone else.

I know. And he hated everybody.

I'm not really sure what you're saying here.

C. You know how this ends for Ryan Miller, right? He's gonna allow nine goals in a Game 7 or something. And then sign with the Red Wings.

I know. frick. And Oshie will go play for the Ducks or some shite after a couple years.

What's the boards and NHL's perception of the NY Rangers? Are they kind of the "bad guys" of the NHL. I mean I knew about hockey and teams etc. But the first NHL game I ever attended was the Rangers in MSG over Spring break and it was awesome, so I've found myself rooting for them since them(wouldn't call myself a fan tho) So I was just wondering how they are perceived in the NHL.

And as far as I can remember the first team I ever "liked" was the Colorado Avalanche back when I was a little kid.

ETA: If you could compare them to a current NFL team that'd be pretty helpful.

I'm a Devils fan so I loathe the Rangers. Absolutely hate them since Conference Finals 1994.

I'd compare them to the Cowboys. Sign big name players and always fall short. Annoying fan base.

I was saying the inherent Blues-iness turns everything into a painful loss. That's not mocking, I'm a Caps fan. We're the Eastern Conference version of the Blues. I understand. Something bad will happen, because you're the Blues.

As for the Rangers...

Well, they are coached by Torts who is either the biggest scumbag or most entertaining coach in the league, depending on who you ask (I like him). Lundqvist is one of the most well-liked and respected players in the league. Seriously, try and find someone bad-mouthing him. Given a choice between a large contract for their star forward or defenseman, they chose the blueliner Girardi and shipped Callahan out of town. They are a hard working, gritty, blue collar team that everyone would like if they weren't in f'n NYC. But they are, so screw 'em.

And I miss not getting to say "1940" anymore.

well that doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence in them...

looks like I may be leaning more towards Colorado now.

It just makes them all the more lovable.

I'm absolutely rooting for the Blues this postseason. I want something good for them to happen, and their team is ridiculously likeable. But I don't want you going in without reading all of the warnings. Here's a rough list of the most cursed franchises in the NHL:

Whalers*
Blues
Caps
Canucks
Sabres
Islanders (well, since Mike Bossy retired)
Maple Leafs
Sharks

*gone, but not forgotten

Things just happen to these teams. This is also a pretty rough list of some of my favorite NHL teams. I love the angry, doomed fanbases. Fandom is supposed to be hard.

The Jackets and Wild are on the cursed waiting list. Just too recent to be truly doomed.

This might be tough, or it could be fun, Idk...but can you compare the following teams to either an NFL or College football team? It would help me get a feel for the program overall. I know there won't be an apples to apples comparison but people put out those shitty lists like 'what simpsons character is your team' and other nonsense all the time.

Stars
Avalanche
Blues
Sharks
Predators

I think those are the main ones I'm looking at.

Not anymore. They have Vigneault. Torts coaches the Canucks.

The Blues are like the Bills were with Thurman Thomas, just on a more consistent basis. They are always in the playoffs. They are always thought of as contenders. They always end up falling short. I remember when they won the president's trophy in 99-00 after just destroying the entirety of the league. They entered as the one seed into the playoffs. Then they got beat by San Jose, the 8 seed, in 7 games. They looked like an entirely different team. It was ridiculous.

Hmm, not bad. Being that I'm not a "real fan" I guess, I'm not living and dying with this team like I do for UGA so it's not gonna crush me if they don't win it all every few years. Just being in playoff contention sounds nice.

Stars - Texas A&M
Ridiculously young team that boasts a really good offense and a questionable defense. Their star player is a gigantic pain in the arse off the field (Seguin got traded from Boston because there were too many incidents)

Avs - Georgia
Rode a generational talent (Forsberg/Herschel) to a national title in a bygone era. Still has a great rivalry as a relic from that era with the Red Wings. Generally liked, but always fall just short of the title.

Blues - South Carolina
Cursed. Just cursed. But they do boast an incredibly loyal fanbase that is starving for a winner. Gotten real good recently.

Sharks - Auburn
Living in the shadow of their more successful cross-state rival, they have perhaps the best offense in the league. There is no Cam Newton equivalent.

Predators - Miss st.
Not in a mean way. Solid team that stresses no frill s frills defense. not a title contender, but they stress a blue collar style. Everyone makes fun of them for being rednecks.

Ouch. Dont tell him that! He wont even give the Stars a chance, . But by all accounts, Seguin has done a complete 180 since coming to Dallas. I dont recall one negative story about him since becoming a Star. He has pretty much stayed out of the public's eye entirely. Nowhere near as big of a douche as Johnny.

You did that on purpose didn't ya?

I'm waiting til I get home to do more in depth research (ie, not just read this thread) but it looks like it'll be CO or Stl, and dammit you've tipped the scales in favor of the Avs.

I think you should televise your selection like a high school football recruit.
