Coined the phrase" Here come da' Tigers" when LSU would take the field.

Mike, thinking of you buddy...

Very sorry for your loss. John Ferguson & Walter Hill were my Saturday nights growing up in Tennessee. I never missed their calls of Tiger games on Saturday nights thru WWL. Great memories.....

My first memories of LSU football are of me and my family crowding around a little radio at my grandfathers camp listening to Walter Hill and John Ferguson.

This! and my Dad throwing the radio if we lost! To this day I still enjoy a game on the radio (every now and then).
My best to your family and thank you.

My condolences. Does anyone know where I can find a sound feed of Walter calling a game? Looked online without success.

Like many on here, I grew up listening to Walter Hill and John Ferguson. In those days before the Tigers were on television every week, we relied on the two of them to paint the picture, to bring the games alive, and they did a magnificent job of it. They are as responsible as any for creating the magic of Saturday nights in Death Valley. My childhood would not have been the same without them, and LSU would not be the same without them both.

What he said (BillF)! Was part of my childhood 60's with my dad charting the games from their call. Never forget his pre game description vs AU think was 72 how crucial game was to both teams "if you don't think will be some bone crunching hitting tonight, well stay tuned"!

I lived with my radio on as a kid in the 1970s and still have pretty vivid memories of he and Ferguson.
Another lost great from the era.
May he rest in peace.

Walter and John Ferguson were integral parts of night time football at LSU. These guys are true legends of SEC football and sportscasting on the radio.

So many of us grew up with John Ferguson and Walter Hill. Their names bring up great and fond memories. They were certainly a huge influence on many of us who are today old, being able to "see" the action without being there. How many times did I hear, "the Tigers jumped over a snake that time" or "here come da Tigers." Great memories from two great men. Sorry for your loss; our loss.

I've read the many wonderful things Tiger Fans have posted here about Walter Hill over the years.
I am Walter's daughter-in-law. If anyone would like to post a message to his widow and sons, I'll be sure they get it.
Lucy

I know at one point Walter and my father were really good friends. My dad worked for WBRZ for a short time in his youth and his second home was the Cotton Club.

I will make sure to let him know.
