re: Is everyone underestimating the 2014 LSU football offense?

Let's see: we're losing our starting QB, 2 1000 yard receivers and a 1000 yard rusher.
Why in the hell would anyone underestimate LSU with just those four guys to replace?
I get your point...but we're not exactly replacing them with chopped liver.
We'll be raw on offense, but very, very talented!

I expect us to have an average SEC offense. It's pretty unusual to have a great offense with a freshman quarterback in this league. That doesn't mean we won't win a lot of games; Les has a good winning percentage even when fielding below average offenses.

I hope you are right, but I have to disagree. Mettenberger, Beckham, Landry, Hill, and Turner will play in the NFL. Harris, Fournette, Dupre, and Quinn will probably be good players, but you do not win SEC football with freshmen. I remain excited about the possibilities.

Yes table your expectations

Big key is developing enough threat in the passing game to keep D's honest. If that happens our O will be functional. There will be a lot of talent, so if we can develop some chemistry our O will be very good.

No.
We lose a great QB, a great RB, and 2 great WRs, along with 1 of our best OL.
OL is the strength of the offense, no doubt about that.
Magee will be solid for us because hes a good RB. LF should be as well, but still a freshman. Im almost done with Hilliard
Dural is the only WR that is locked into a starting role. All the other WRs havent done anything before and didnt look that great in the spring game. Hell, i think Bolden looked like 1 of our best WRs in the spring game. DeSean Smith will be 1 of our top pass catches.
But Dupre and Quinn are still just incoming freshman. I have no idea if these guys are game ready considering they havent even practiced with us yet. They will be going against some of the top DBs in the country in the SEC.
And, the biggest question mark of all, is the QB spot. We have no idea who plays, what kind of QB they are, what they can handle, etc. It doesnt matter if you have awesome WRs, if youre QB cant get them the ball its wasted away.
That said, we will be better than what we were in 2009. We have a great offensive coach in Cam Cameron. He will find ways to simplify it for our young guys, and it will still be effective. But we are def going to have our ups and downs on the offensive side of the ball next year.

I think there's a misconception that's probably been addressed, but likely needs to be re-iterated. Not every offensive player is going to be replaced with true-freshman. Magee and Hilliard are both good tenured rushers that will likely have great seasons with our o-line if Fournette doesn't breakout like hill. Leslie, Diarse,Dural, and Smith aren't freshman. All of them have talent at their positions too. Jennings isn't a true-freshman. A lot of new starters perhaps, but there's a big difference.
There's likely a drop off, but it probably won't be to the degree people are stating.
Also, Christ almighty. Spring results don't mean shite unless they are freshman.

I think it will be weak. We have a strong Oline, but an inexperienced.....everything else.
This will be like the J.J. offense where the D stacks the box every play and dares us to pass...and we pray we pick up the first on a qb scramble.

I think the offense will look similar to last years Auburn offense in the beginning where we will rely heavily on the running game with an occasional big play from the passing game, as the QB gets more comfortable the offense becomes more explosive.
Hell if Gus can transform Nick Marshall into a serviceable QB then I have full confidence in Cam developing Jennings/Harris into a serviceable QB in their first full season.

Agreed KG
People will have to brace themselves for a fact of life when playing fr at this level. Inconsistency. A few plays will have this board claiming multiple heisman trophies, and nat titles. And other plays in the same game will have people on this board wanting Jordan Jefferson back. Well maybe that last thing is a bit of an overstatement.
Know what we will have to cheer for this year.

I'm not buying any QB or WR yet. And we haven't had a great OL in a long time. But I'm a realist.

*Experienced depth at RB & WR could be a problem
*Collins must stay healthy at LT
*QB's are young & inexperienced
Anyone thinking LSU can replace 4,000 + in offensive production from the skill positions is delusional. Tighten your arsses because all meaninful games will be very close. (Except Kentucky)
9 wins would be great. 10 would be awesome.

these aren't average freshman however... they are all ELITE talent. Harris was the #1 dual threat QB coming out of high school and fournette was the #1 ranked player in the ENTIRE country... a once every 10 years type player...
I think the offense is in good hands with cameron at the helm.

Link? He wasn't on ESPN, Scout, Rivals, or 247.
The hype is getting far too large for these true freshmen. Then when they struggle or don't start immediately the Rant will tear them apart.

I am all in for the Tigers, but our biggest problem area is QB. I look for every team we play this year will put 9 in the box & make us throw. The big question is can we?

Fournette will be ready, just like Marcus Lattimore was.
Solid comparison actually.
Rare talents with good heads on their shoulders that are very physically mature in HS.
I LIKE IT!

On 96 of Jeremy Hill's 203 carries last year, he ran against 8 or more men in the box and averaged nearly 8 yards a carry. This was quoted in an ESPN article about Jeremy Hill after pro day. Stop talking out of your arse on nonsense. It seems like you guys take anything you've seen only on here and continue to quote it as gospel. We are always going against stacked fronts because we are a power run offense. We also don't throw the ball 380+ times a year, so we confuse nobody. Mett threw the ball less than 300 times in 12 games.
We have Dural and Desean who are set for breakout years. Leslie is good enough to be a downfield threat and we need one of Diarse/Quinn/Dupre to be a reliable WR3. I've seen Treadwell explode last year as a true freshman, and Wallace is a terrible decision maker. I saw Coates go from 6 catches the previous year, to 42 catches and over 900 yards with a QB who can half throw and only practiced two weeks of the offense before playing his first D1 game. Seems like people still doubt Cam's involvement and still doubt the talent that LSU has. Whoever the QB will be, he is poised to throw between 2600 and 2900 yards. Both have the ability to rush for an extra 200-400 yards because of mobility, and the OL.
I have seen too many SEC freshman RBs run all over teams with no passing game up to prolific passing games. Fournette has the OL and major talent to dominate right out the gate like Collins did last year. Magee averaged 7.3 yards per carry last year and even dropping down to 6.3 would make him a great back. We have 3 tune up games, a depleted Wisky defense, and an MSU team at home to get our offense in order. I have no doubt about us coming out and doing just that.
Sorry, I just don't see how this offense will be bad. Don't see it at all.

Trust In Cam
he will have this offense ready to go

That was poetic
Too many people here just like throwing out the generic 'coach speak' and act like its gospel when they have no idea what they're talking about

Disagree here as well. Dural got some PT last year and anyone can see he has the talent. Hilliard and Magee have been in this program for years now and are established veterans. Not to mention Dillon Gordon, Travis Dickson, and Desean smith.
I think like someone else said, the huge misconception is that we're counting on a ton of freshman to be starters when them to just be key contributors, save maybe Fournette and Harris if he wins the job.
