True but it's MUCH better than before.

And there's been plenty of info posted in this thread on the variables that make your country and the U.S.A. different. Any other thoughts on the differences?

So Guam, a U.S. territory whose citizens are subject to U.S. federal laws, has the 11th lowest homicide rate in the world.

There are other factors at play, but to ignore our sky high murder by gun rates is silly. We are like 20 times higher than the next highest wealthy country in the top 20 wealthiest.

Hmmmmm...what is it besides guns that we have that these other wealthy countries do not?

Why is this multiple pages?

OP was destroyed like the puss he is in the third response.

That is impressive. It's the 2nd lowest in the world...i.e. if you were going to cherry pick ONE country where citizens couldn't own guns it would be THE country to pick if you were tyring to push an agenda.

The Demographics, Population Diversity and it's Borders are also a strong correlations to this number.

Let's not point out the countries that are much more like the USin Population Diversity (25% of japan is "elderly"; 98.5 of their population is native), Geographical location (i.e. BOARDERS WITH DRUG CARTELS), etc AND don't let citizens own guns...that wouldn't serve the OP's purpose.

Just to reciprocate OP...

Because people actually want to talk about it. I know it's probably a tough concept for you to handle....conversation.

The Japanese have a keen sense of shame and a healthy fear of dishonoring their family. While they don't worship their ancestors as some believe, they certainly don't want to shame them by going postal.

They average exactly 2 gun related homicides per year.

1. The people have respect for each other. They have never had a lot of room, so they don't start shite with people. They also don't have people dividing this or that group, creating antagonists for political gain except for the standard rich/poor argument.

2.If you're going to take someone out there, you do it by hand, knife, or sword. That's just how they roll.

3. Guns have been illegal there forever, and in case you haven't noticed, it's a fricking island. The US has had guns around since before Independence, and guns last a long time. The black market for guns would be enormous, and we aren't exactly on an island. They will be imported or purchased by criminals, just like in Japan. It just takes a lot more money to get one in there than it would here, and only Yakuza can really afford them.

The pacification of both Germany and Japan post WW2 is well-documented. Both countries have strict firearm prohibitions that only work because the countries were literally occupied by enemies and guns were entirely removed from circulation, combined with the fact that both nations (Germany especially) were utterly devastated and the people were OK with not having weapons around like the ones that had been omnipresent and devastating to their homes in the latter days of the war.

If you tried to institute a strict firearm prohibition here, all you would have is law-abiding citizens angrily giving up their guns, otherwise law-abiding citizens angrily refusing to give up their guns and becoming ipso facto criminals, and true criminals licking their chops at the prospect of being armed amongst an unarmed (or lesser armed) populace.

Good point as well. I'm not as familiar with the Germans, but the Japanase did what their government told them to do... including crash planes into ships and run in front of US tanks with dynamite on a stick. Convincing them to give up any guns(and most gave up Katana at one point as well) is easy compared to what many were convinced to do before that.

Extrapolate the 4 most dangerous cities in the US with the highest murder rate(IIRC Chitown, Miami, Detroit LA) the United States is the safest place in the world to live with by far the heavliest armed citizenry in the world.

First of all, I didn't know this. Do you have something to back this up, because I'd love to have that data in my arsenal.

Secondly, you don't mean "extrapolate", you mean "exclude". If you "extrapolate" anything about the overall US crime rate based on those 4 cities, your data would demonstrate that the U.S. is the most violent place imaginable. Can you imagine 300 million people and 3.5 million square miles of downtown Detroit?

Obviously of the wealthier nations, we have the most liberal gun control laws and our homicide rates are exponentially higher than any other wealthy nation.

Oddly enough in the US it is the most liberal cities with the highest murder rates......
