Not as bad as Sunday. Just a lot of overreacting.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the two guys are even comparable. Francouer has consistently been one of the worst players in the league since his breakout.

You're seriously comparing Jason Heyward to Jeff Francoeur?

Even 2013 Heyward was pretty damn good.

In this era, a corner outfielder who will give you a high-.700s OPS and great fielding is well above-average.

He is in his 5TH MLB SEASON at 24. Think about that for a bit.

You all rushed him to the Bigs, giving up on him now would be silly.

No doubt. And it was just 2012 when he OPS'd .814 and played the best right field defense in the game.

I don't think that kind of season is his ceiling either. He did that even with a .335 OBP (8.9% walk rate) which is well below anything else he has done in his career. A .900 OPS is well within his reach.

He's hitting in to some tough luck early this year, but a top 5 MVP caliber season anytime now wouldn't really surprise me.

To be fair, the only one really giving up on him in this thread is OP.

He's going through a little cold spell early in the year, it happens. I'm not worried.

I mean, he received MVP votes that season and OPS'd .850. His rookie season was exceptional.

I get what you're saying, but he hasn't really improved much since he's been up. There isn't much to point to in terms of development to this point. I think we'll know alot more after this season assuming he stays healthy.

I don't know if you extend him as a franchise player like Miggy or Trout...but I would probably lean towards an extension of some sort.

He still has too much potential.

I don't think Heyward is mediocre. He's a top 10 right fielder at worst, argument could be made he's top 5. Was arguably the best RF in the game in 2012.

top 10 probably but top 5 is a stretch.

Beltran
Braun
Cuddyer
Bautista
Stanton
Bruce

Are all ahead offensively anyway.

Since Heyward came up Bautista and Braun have obviously been better players. But I think Heyward has been better than everybody else on that list overall.

Offense only you can add Werth, Stanton and Beltran as being better for sure. Looking at the numbers Bruce, Cuddyer and Heyward seem pretty close to me offensively in that timeframe.

But Heyward makes up for it defensively as he is clearly the best defender of that group and maybe in all of baseball as a RF.

I'd agree here. Only one maybe in the conversation is Bruce.

Am I missing something? Seems like he would be a perfect match for the braves based on the above...

I'd like to punch you and most of the other Cards fans on here in the balls.

Back in topic...

JHey is a great defensive RF and a streaky hitter. His problems at the plate are hopefully just a cold start. Even if he's just an average hitter (which he's not), ill take him more times than not for his defense.
