Both or maybe his angles are so bad it just looks like he doesn't want to tackle. He's out of position a lot. He does have straight line speed though, converting him to an OLB rusher would be interesting because he looks decent blitzing off the edge and up the middle.

Would not take him in the first though

yeah, when you read stuff about him it is mentioned he could be used as a 4-3 weakside LB or a 3-4 edge rusher because of his speed.

where did you get that?

feasted on subpar competiton
that is what you should do.

to disappear against the better defenses he faced with a first round pick.

ran a 4.38 40 time at his pro day.
he's 6'3" 230 and Hawthorne is 6'0" 230. Just putting that out there.
people have pointed out the lack of size in some of the LB prospects like Mosley and Shazier. But Hawthorne just isn't all that big either.

What's more sad is Hawthorne doesn't look all that fast either.
I'd love Mosley, and I'd like to have Shazier too. I don't get the hate for him because from everything I've seen he is a baller. Don't get the soft comment at all.

Get over yourself. Sorry I don't want a guy who runs crap routes misjudges deep throws, and feasted on subpar competiton, to disappear against the better defenses he faced with a first round pick. Matthews and cooks are both more complete receivers.

Every game Ive seen nothing stands out to make him a good NFL LB. He's misses many tackles, takes horrible angles, and is either out of play via positioning or being knocked into the secondary on a block.Shoulda said not a good player instead of soft.

I would love a linebacker that can hold down the spot for years to come and be a force. That or a stud wide receiver. Surely there is value to be had in rounds later than one, but that first pick I hope is a home run...
So many options this year and it's really exciting. Seems like it will be another best player available situation instead of drafting for need. This could be a great draft for us.

I'll give you that I have only seen highlights and those are made to make players look good so I didn't see the misses and bad angles.
But from what did see he is definitely a beast when he is playing well.

We should go for CB first round, then WR second round.

maybe he is better suited to play in a 4-3?
I mean that is what he played in Seattle.
But now, he's an undersized LB playing inside LB in a 3-4.
sort of reminds of Aubrayo Franklin a few years ago. He was a good NT for the 49ers in a 3-4 defense but then sort of seemed like an odd fit when he got here. I guess the Saints ran some 3-4 looks then but not all the time. I don't remember people being down on him but he didn't stay here long. I guess he only had a 1 year deal or something.

He definitely struggles at times taking on guards in the run game, but he is decent in coverage(which for us means he is lock down level as far as LBs go ) and a pretty good blitzer.
It seemed he was often playing zone which doesn't seem to suit him. I think if you play him in man and have him attack more that would play to his strengths.
He's much better coming down hill against the run and blitzing. He shoots gaps a lot better that way.
He seems to have the speed to cover in man, but sometimes gets lost in space in zone.
And that obviously wasn't his best game.
