Natural Pools - the next backyard project

Saw this on TV and I always thought it would be awesome. A pool that looks like a pond.
Interesting facts I found:
Cost is about the same as a regular pool (but not many people build them in US yet)
Very popular in Europe
Maintenance costs are much lower than traditional pools.
Plant life on outside acts as natural filter and cleans the water
Excavated similarly to a normal pool, then a layer of tarp and pebble laid down to keep water clear.
Anyway just wanted to share. I'm hoping these become more popular in the US soon.

That water wouldn't look like that in Louisiana...

That will turn into a mosquito orgy faster than you can blink

Looks trashy. I bet people instantly regret not getting a regular pool after they build this

they do look awesome, but I cannot imagine them being less maintenance

It's not natural if it's created by man.

Mmmmm yes a massive mosquito/snake orgy in my backyard, just what i want to drop thousands of dollars on.

There's got to be some amount of chemicals right?

Most of those natural pools I've seen are in cooler climates. Mosquitoes can be a concern, but could be overcome. I'd be more worried about warm water and algae & pathogens, and also snakes. frick snakes.

I wouldn't be a fan.
All those irregular surfaces would be difficult to clean with an automatic cleaner.

So I can have a real pool, or an algae, snake infested, mosquito haven for the same amount of money.
Hmmmm, tough choice...

That looks awesome but I have a feeling it wouldn't work to well in an environment like Louisiana.
