during the regular season

UConn losing 80-something to 40-something against Louisville to end the regular season has to be one of the more lopsided losses for a national champion

Can anyone else think of other good examples

Eta: can include a conference tourney/championship loss as well

Eta2: include nfl as well

And this is not taking away anything from UCONN or any other NCs. Great job by then to turn it around in the big tournament and win the games that mattered most

they didn't end up winning, but OU lost the 2003 Big XII championship game 35-7

Pro or college?

College football is the only sport where losing in the regular season actually matters.

Bama 2011. Got out scored by 50% in the regular season against LSU.

LSU got thoroughly dominated by Florida in 2003 before going on to win the national title.

It was only 19-7, but LSU only scored on a punt return.

Miami lost to Florida 28-3 to open the 1983 season and went on to win the national championship.

Not college, but the 03 Patriots lost their opening game 31-0 to the Buffalo Bills. Proceeded to go 14-2 and win the SB.

Yankees lost 6-2 in their opener and then went on to win the 2014 World Series.
