No kidding. I've bought 3 new handguns in the past 4 months because of this site.

Damn KR and his overseas tax shelters.

That's what bothers me, dawg23. How trustworthy are reviews these days?

I don't trust any review in any gunrag. It takes balls to call a gun or holster a piece of crap when the manufacturer is paying for full page four-color ads. Very few (if any) publishers/editors are willing to do this.

The only one that doesn't/didn't take advertising dollars is/was Gun-Tests.com. But they know/knew virtually nothing about handguns or shotguns.

The NRA "American Rifleman" has stooped to new lows (I'm a Life Member, so I think I can say this). In the February, 2014 issue they published a two page report on the "Gamo Whisper Fusion Pro Air Rifle." Perhaps coincidentally, there was a full page (actually two half-pages) four-color ad in that issue for this exact pellet gun.

Back to SabiDojo's question -- I pay attention to three sources of opnions on the reliability of SD handguns:

1. The "big name" instructors who train thousands of students each year in multi-day classes where you shoot 800-1200 rounds. These guys know what guns crap out, and which ones don't.

I do exclude from this group the guys who are paid to review guns in some of the gun magazines referenced above. They suddenly become very diplomatic (e.g. "This gun was virtually trouble-free during our test.," but they don't define "virtually").

You'll learn more from these trainers if you're actually in a class, and look at what they carry -- or ask a few questions during a break (as opposed to waiting to see what they might say in an article).

2. Second source is large LE agencies (federal, state and large local agencies). They test stuff, and (usually) buy good stuff. Occasionally (rarely) politics get involved in some purchasing selections, but I know enough folks in LE to usually get some inside info if I hear of this happening.

3. Elite military (not just U.S.) special forces units. They rely less on sidearms than they do shoulder-fired weapons, but they carry the good stuff.

Just my $.02

For those thinking about the LCP in either .380 or 9 have you actually shot it?

I shot both and while its a neat gun you can have that 1/4 mile travel double action trigger and the no place for your pinky finger all day long.

Go shoot the .p238 then turn around n shoot the LCP and try to tell me how comparable they are. About like comparing Kate Upton to Rosanne Barr.
And remember, this is really more for your SO to defend herself, so 10mm really isnt much of a consideration.

I'm still open to suggestions so I'll look at the P238. I know price shouldn't be that big of a concern but $650?

PSA is running a sale on them online. $469
The Sports 12 with rubber Hogue grip and pinky extension mag.
Great grip, especially for a subcompact. Much better than the reg grips IMHO.

IMO if you are set on .380 then go Sig P238. Ruger DA triggers are just awful. If you are looking at single stack 9mm then I would go
1. Shield ( was on slickguns this week from 3 places around $350-$375)
2. XDs9mm ( I have the .45)

I have not touched the Kahr so I can't comment, but have heard good things about it.

You're going to enjoy that. I would suggest Shootingthebull410 youtube channel. He has done extensive testing with the pocket .380 ammo and will give you some idea of what to carry in it.
