Then by that logic, I guess my tax dollars shouldn't fund public education either since my kids will never go to public school?

by that logic, there should be a $5 fee added to freshwater licenses also and not just salt.

Thats what I was trying to say.

If you fish in monroe (mecca) and only around there, all you need is a fresh license

If you fish in NOLA and surrounding areas, you will need a fresh and salt license

If you only tuna fish out of venice, you still need a fresh and salt license.

It all based around the fresh/salt dividing line

Lifetime was the greatest investment I ever made. My parents and I split it for my 15th birthday. Paid for itself before I was 20

I think thats wrong. i don't fish above the division line and i have to get both. i'm pretty sure its if you buy a saltwater, you have to get the freshwater also. if you fish freshwater, you dont have to get salt.

B/c you cant really think of it as two separate licenses. The "freshwater" is just your basic fishing license that allows you to fish. The saltwater is basically a permit that allows you to fish the saltwater areas, kind of like a WMA permit.

You only need a saltwater if you fish in a saltwater area/below the line, which I think is dumb.

This.
It's like a basic hunting license, then you add the "extras" like a duck stamp.

And currently the hot topic for research is snapper, but 25 years ago it was redfish -- so as long as the money isn't appropriated elsewhere then it sounds good to me.

Thats the problem, LDWF is arguably one of the most corrupt organizations in LA, the entire Dept is run like the mafia, from the biologists to the Agents, which is a whole 'nother topic in itself, but I digress.

Look at what happened with the oyster harvester license. Commercial oyster fishermen are required to buy a license every year to fund the DHH and the oyster strike force, which has essentially been disbanded since the LDWF guy that headed/created it retired, but oyster fishermen are still required to purchase the license at full price, when only half of the entities it was solely intended to fund exists anymore.

Bottom line, is, its the government and the government never gives anything back once they take it from you.

when it comes to saltwater fishing, $7.50 is not worth discussing.

best investment I ever made for my kids , and myself

$200 - Lifetime hunt/fish Combo ... infant to 4 yrs old

increase to $300 for kids 5 to 13
$500 for anyone over 14 yrs old

FWIW - TX Lifetime combo is right at $2K , so the Sportsman's Paradise is a bargain

I am totally of this mindset but if you have kept a close eye on the snapper debacle, you would see that LDWF is really going to bat for us.
