re: Big Ole Speck from Baffin Bay, TX - lsufisherman
Texas definitely has some big sow trout! My biggun was caught out of venice and was 28.5 inches long and topped out a little over 7 lbs. I caught him the day after the Star tourney was over and he woulda placed that year. Ive had the pleasure of catching several specks over 26inches over the y...
OF COURSE the program is voluntary. Will you also start a thread when a Catholic accepts a penance doled out by a priest at confession?
Penance isn't exactly the same as a civil arbitration... but you probably just ignored that...
In the article I linked the lawyer also refused to answer what would happen to people who refuse to abide by the tribunal's decision.
Understood, and I would say that they should be watched closely. But at the same time, if they aren't breaking the law and they are meeting a need, ...

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
I understand the perils of sharia law, but in the article you posted the lawyer said that: 1)They are not dealing with criminal cases, that could result in death... only civil cases 2)It only applies to consenting parties 3)It is a non-binding decision and they can freely go to the court system ...

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
I said
Its not uncommon for leaders in Christian churches to act as non-binding arbitrators in civil matters based on passages in the New Testament. I see no real threat here as long as they aren't participating in honor killings or stonings. And it be mutually agreed on by all parties invol...

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
Why should that affect whether two people would agree to go to marital counseling before a divorce hearing? People agree on how to split up belongings in the case of a divorce before ever getting married. They should be able to preemptively require counseling if they so desire to as well....

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
why is it a travesty to have a covenant marriage offered? I don't think it should be forced on anyone. But if two people decide that they would want to enter into one, I don't see the problem...

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
that was a reply to your original post and i specifically said that it did not meet the requirements of happening within a church. It was just showing that there are arbitrators of the christian religion that operate under a religious law before state or federal law....

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
I know of two seperate small claims that have been resolved within and through church arbitration. Nothing of major value but in lieu of going to small claims court the parties instead decided to go through an arbitration lead by the pastor. They felt that it would resolve it in a less contentious w...

By the way, a simple google search shows various christian arbitrators. Not saying these happen within a church, but just something similar to this Muslim Tribunal [link=(http://christianarbitrationservices.com/index.html)]LINK[/link] [link=(http://www.wallacejordan.com/services-alternative-di...

Well I just won't be able to convince you then... is it that hard of an idea to believe, that people of similar faiths would do things according to that faith. This tribunal in texas is a seemingly small start up that is dealing with voluntary clients. They enter into a contract that is admittedl...

re: Islamic Tribunal Confirmed in Texas; Attorney Claims ‘It’s Voluntary' - lsufisherman
Ive attended several churches (SBC) that have acted in such a manner. It was mutually agreed upon and followed principles that were laid forth beforehand. I don't see why it would be odd for people of a certain religion to agree to handle an issue or conflict in a way that their religion would speci...
