give me Mosley over ford

I would agree on this, but there's a good chance he'll go to Green Bay with the 21st pick.

Ford is a 4-3 DE too.. he has played 4-3 DE for his whole life.. The fact that he says he can play a 3-4 OLB means nothing. Round peg, square hole.
General managers draft versatile defensive ends and transition them to outside linebacker all the time, how is he a round peg, square hole? He's one of the fastest defensive ends in the draft, has an outstanding first step, and has been productive. The only thing working against him right now is his injury history, and maybe that he's a smaller defensive end (which won't matter if he's drafted as an outside linebacker).

I get that you don't want the New Orleans Saints to draft him, I feel the same away about player for the Denver Broncos, but we need to instill some logic based on the recent past into our opinions...

FWIW, I think he would fit well in New Orleans, but I also feel that there are more pressing needs on the team...which means I would want them to go elsewhere in the draft if I were a fan.

frick Ford. I don't want him. I do agree we need an OLB. Butler is unproven and lets be honest Gallette is a DE.

Who is "listening" to him? I posted the material with "fwiw, fyi."

The draft is still a month away. We're just killing time.

I wouldn't mind an OLB early, I'm just not big on Dee Ford. The only real glaring hole on the roster right now is Center, so any other position drafted will pretty much be for depth. One exception I could see though is if Mosley falls to 27.

Agreed on the exception, I wouldn't mind Mosley at all. And next year Lofton and hawthorne will have extreme cap numbers and everybody else is on a one year deal. No doubt we address LB somewhere in the draft.

Center: Lelito and a 3rd or 4th

WR: I think is a bigger hole. I'm going on record. - I say we draft 2 of them.

Since people often misunderstand where I'm coming from I'll start with the fact that we will go BPA almost regardless of the position (no K, P, or FB).

If that happens to be Ford so be it.

My problem once again is the assertion we run a 3-4 base, we a lack pass rushers, and that Ford is the type of LB we need.

We run a nickel base and that's not changing, we have pass rushers (yes everyone can always use more, but it's not a need), and we need a coverage LB, not a pure pass rushing one.

The only drop dead spot we are taking is center if we don't add one in FA. Yes it's extremely likely we get a CB, WR, and LB but they will be in the BPA group where we pick them and not a reach to fill others ill perceived needs.

In regards to mock drafts, I was curious and...

1 & 5 yr Mock Drafts scored

After Mack & Barr the 3-4 OLBs drop off to more like 2nd Rd quality (Ford, Attaochu, Shazier). They're pickable but look more towards reach than value.

Mosley is undersized for the middle but could be the only inside backer taken in the 1st, maybe even 2nd Rd. He's compared to Lavonte David. HERE is who 5 NFL personnel executives compared him to-

Executive No. 1: Giants LB Jon Beason

"Mosley is a better version of a young Jon Beason. He's a little better against both the run and the pass."

Executive No. 2: Former Buccaneers LB Derrick Brooks

"His instincts and playmaking ability remind me of Derrick Brooks."

Executive No. 3: Browns LB D'Qwell Jackson

"He's a younger, more athletic version of D'Qwell Jackson. He's an active, instinctive linebacker with good toughness. He's not a great take-on guy."

Executive No. 4: Panthers LB Luke Kuechly

"He reminds me a lot of Kuechly. They are both athletic in coverage and they rely more on instincts than pure strength to make plays against the run."

Executive No. 5: 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman

"If I had to choose one guy, I'd say Bowman. However, I also see a lot of similar traits that I saw in Thomas Davis and Sean Weatherspoon when they were coming out of college."

Verdict: One vote apiece for Beason, Brooks, Jackson, Kuechly and Bowman.

Conclusion: I was a little surprised we didn't see a name pop up more than once but I can't argue with any of the players mentioned above. I saw a little bit of each of those players when I studied Mosley over the summer. There is never a perfect match when comparing players during the draft process, but there are definitely singular traits that different players share. In this case, each of the linebackers listed above has a strong reputation built on instincts and athleticism. Those are two outstanding qualities for a linebacker, and these executives believe Mosley grades out strong in both areas.

As mocks go, Kiper is usually the most accurate. Again, that's not saying much.

Wrong!

He is never right.

The level of inaccuracy in their February 2013 mock drafts was staggering. That's not to goof on those guys, who are all knowledgeable. But they're predicting without knowing how free agency will play out, or how well players will perform at the Combine. Let's look at their work from a year ago, one by one:

Mel Kiper, ESPN

Kiper got a grand total of 0 picks correct, and missed on each pick by an average of 19.1 draft spots.

I'm no Kiper fan, but the guy pretty much invented his own job. Gotta give him credit for that.

I don't mind Kiper too much. He is a little loud for my taste though. What really rustles my jimmies is when ESPN has him talk about baseball or basketball. He has absolutely no expertise in those areas.

All of those guys did post Combine/FA mock drafts so it's stupid to point out the inaccuracies in the Feb. mocks.
