This.

NFL scouts say he has the strongest arm in the history of the sport.

ETA:

Do you guys not remember that grainy cellphone video showing Jamarcus throw the ball 100 yards in the air? Goal line to fricking goal line. He would routinely throw the ball through the goal post from his knee at the 50 yard line.

Freak of fricking nature. Also, he was very very accurate at LSU. People forget that. If he had gone to a good organization, he'd be a good pro. Oakland is just a blackhole for talent.

Rohan had a good arm and threw a gorgeous ball, but it wasn't top 4 in arm strength.

1. Jamarcus

2. Bert Jones

3. Josh Booty (he had a very, very elite arm)

4. Mettenberger

5. I'm struggling to pick a #5.

I would say Rohan Davey or Marcus Randle

Ro had such a wonderfully pretty (though slightly unorthodox) release point and great touch. He had some zip, but not a real cannon. I can't think of one throw where you thought, "Damn Rohan's got a gun!"

Randal made one long famous throw and was never known for having a rifle.

It's JR, Jones, Mett, Booty, etc. All of these guys had PLENTY of signature throws that almost no one else had the arm to make.

BTW, Brandon Harris' arm will be talked about in the realm of Mettenberger one day. Not Jamarcus or Bert, but he certainly has Mett's arm strength IMO.

Especially once he gains some muscle mass and strength.

Hopefully he can get his accuracy and footwork down, which with Cam I have little doubt he will.

Jamarcus' arm was almost TOO strong- he never could really find the right touch on his deep ball. I remember him overthrowing too much early, then underthrowing deep balls as a junior.

On the other hand his intermediate passes were generally incredible. Some of the plays he made in the Tennessee, Fresno State, and Notre Dame games in particular were just STUPID.

He was a pleasure to watch at LSU, and he won a lot of big games for us. I'll always be a big JR fan.

JR had one of the strongest arms EVER in CFB

Not just CFB. Any football.

Very few QBs can throw the ball 80 to 85 yards

I think the ASU throw is one of the most underrated throws in LSU history.

That ball probably traveled 60-65 yards in the air and had perfect placement. He threw it while on the run.

The UT one to Bowe while getting hit was pretty damn incredible too.

You rarely see a guy with that kind of arm who can place a ball like he regularly could his junior season. He could put the ball between 3 guys and rarely threw interceptions

I remember Marcus Randall being asked about crazy stunts with footballs, including Elway throwing a Nerf football over 100 yards, and Jones almost throwing a ball out of Tiger Stadium from the endzone. During the interview, he and the interviewer were sitting in the student section - Marcus looked up towards the top of the stadium and said, "I bet Jamarcus could do it..."

I don't think this is a remotely debatable topic. Personally, I truly believe Jamarcus Russell has the strongest arm in the history of modern football

I know you all want to answer with football arms but I'll share a couple of JZ stories.

Obligatorily CSB..

JZ graduated from ED White in 01, I remember being a sophmore and looking at the state playoff brackets that year and coming across JZ from ED White. Clicked a link to one of his "recruiting" videos. Guy was a catcher at the time at ED, he was constantly 1.4-1.6 seconds down to second...from his knees. That's shite yadier Molina does, for perspective. His catching footwork and body balence wasn't very good. And he still pulled 1.4-1.6. Thats how strong his arm was.

Second story, in 2003 in Omaha, I saw him pick up a ball at the wall, turn, take one step and throw an absolute rope to third during infield/outfield warmups. The ball never got more that 7-8 feet off the ground. shite that Vladimir Guerrero did.

Absolutely ridiculous arm.

I wish we had Jamarcus during the JJ/JL era. That would have been one of the greatest college football teams ever!

Little known story:

As you know, Jamarcus was from Mobile. One day as a 6th grader his class took a field trip to see the USS Alabama.

They had a lunch on the grounds that included marsh-mellows as a desert. Jamarcus, attempting to hit a moving seagull with a marsh-mellow missed his target and hit the ship behind it.

The marsh-mellow went through the battleship.

That's right, Jamarcus threw a marsh-mellow through a battleship.

True story.

I wonder what his fastball would have been like if he had become a pitcher instead of a quarterback.

Bert Jones had a gun, but IMO Jamarcus probably had the strongest arm of anyone that played in the NFL much less LSU. Of coarse a million QBs were better then him, but he had a bigger arm then anyone I think.
