.308 Battle Rifle. Need help picking one

I'm really wanting a semi auto in .308 but need help in deciding. Was in love with M1A Scout but optic mounting options kind of turned me away from it but am still open to it. FN Scar 17 looks like the best but is it really that much better for the money than the better AR-10's and what the hell do I look for in an AR-10 if I go that route? Educate me. Will be used for busting hogs and if the Russians attack.

I have a FNAR, love it!
I paid about $1000 for it when i got it a little over a year ago. I put a cheap bushnell scope on it, and it does the trick perfectly. very accurate gun.

i know nothing about the scars.
i love the AR platform for versatility and aftermarket support. if you got one and didn't like the configuration or the barrel, there are many, many options for components to get it to your specifications. if its going to be for busting hogs i would look for one that is 16" or 18" barrel. that will be plenty of barrel and you would still be able to reach out to +700yds if you wanted.

Get the Scar if you can afford it. Or LWRC AR10.

Love my uncle's scar, will own one one day. Do I like it more than an AR? Hard to say, have only shot it a few times. With that being said, I get way too much enjoyment out of building AR's. So if I had to choose for my first .308 it would be to build one on an AR platform.

LMT makes an awesome AR-10. I have shot the LWRC REPR and it is my favorite .308 I have handled. The side charge system is smooth and locks up well. If I could only buy 1 .308 it would be the REPR. Also, it was shooting 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards all day with handloads (Nightforce scope had much to do with that).

I've been looking at the M1A Scout as well. For me, I want open sights on a 'battle rifle'. The scope is for the bolt gun. The only thing I really don't like about the Scout is the cheap plastic handguard. While I was looking to see if there's a wood replacement, I saw some guys had removed it altogether and put in a rail. That would put your optics a little forward, but then it would be more of a scout setup.

Holler at bushmaster he has a friend that makes them along with .338 lapua and others. I think he can get you a discount.

Really? I didnt realize that. My buddy's LE901 I shot ran perfectly. We probably put around 300 rounds of .308 through it with no problems.

The REPR is a badass rifle but if you want a basic DI AR10, check out the M&P10 by Smith. Has a thin profile barrel and a light handguard.
Also check out the Ruger SR762. It's an affordable gas piston AR10.

PTR91 is a nice HK clone rifle if you want a .308 but the scope mount might be less than ideal if you need optics. I have a FA91 with the fugly aluminum receiver but it shoots great.

Weight. If you plan on lugging it around, that is the number one concern.

I've been looking at the CMMG MK3 they come with all the goodies already from the factory. Geissele SSA trigger, Full length key mod rail, Surefire socom7.62 muzzle break. Magpul stock and pistol grip. Buds guns has them $1700 shipped. They even have a cool YouTube vid on it, with a suppressor to

Thanks guys. I do like what I've read about from the LMT and the Ruger.

Cougar, whats your price point? the LMT and the REPR are insanely awesome, but very expensive

I haven't really set one. If I save for a few months I can get whatever I want, but my affection for 1911's has kept me from saving that long.

Seemed like he would be ok buying a SCAR if it was worth it...he could afford a REPR or an LMT for the same amount.

LMT and the Ruger.
The Ruger may not have the insane quality levels of the LMT or LWRC but if you don't plan on shooting this thing every single week, I doubt you would go wrong with one. People who own them like them and owners of the SR556 (the AR15 version) are also very happy.
EDIT: Bud's has it listed for about $1500. SR762
