The Louisiana College administration is calling a student strike set for Monday a possible violation of the school’s policies — one that comes with serious consequences.
“Most importantly, please be reminded that under some circumstances, severe sanctions such as suspension, denial of a degree, or expulsion from the College may be imposed upon the first violation of the Code,” according to a notice the LC administration sent to students and faculty Friday evening.
The strike — being called “Prayers for Progress” — became public Thursday after a group of current LC students posted fliers around campus overnight. They’re demanding new leadership at the school, namely the removal of Joe Aguillard, president of the private Baptist school in Pineville since 2005.
“Our terms are resignation of the president or dismissal by the board,” said a spokesman for a group of students in contact with The Town Talk.
They are asking for students, faculty, alumni and community members to join them at Guinn Auditorium on campus at 8 a.m. Monday for prayer and worship.
“We are shutting down the school by not attending classes until we are heard and we make steps in the right direction,” the flier reads. “Join us for prayer in Guinn. Bring anything you’ll need. Together we can make a change.”
The student notice said violations were determined through several provisions in the LC Student Handbook, Code of Student Conduct, concerning the announcement of a strike with the intent of “shutting down the school” and the “appropriate use of social media.”
“Any such activities designed for this purpose are in violation of the College policies as established by the Board of Trustees,” it stated.

I read the article and I'm still not sure what Joe Aguillard has done for them to want him gone. Can you enlighten?

LC has taken a severe decline in the past few years.

As another poster noted, in the course of eight or nine years, he's taken Louisiana College from a fairly well-regarded small liberal arts school to a lower tier institution. Included are probation by the SACS, LC's accrediting organization, and misuse of funds, so much so that the biggest donor in the history of the school reneged on their pledge and severed ties with LC. Also retaliation against whistleblowers and a bunch of other stuff. I'm not associated with LC, but it's in my area and I've been following it with a great deal of interest.
Seems like there's more than enough smoke to get this guy canned, but there's very little supervision from the board, or the Louisiana Baptist Convention, which theoretically has the final oversight via controlling LC's purse strings.

Yea, Aguillard is incompetent...He's using Calvanists as a smoke screen for his failures and disaster of an administration.
Pathetic

Being a '75 graduate of LC, it is very disturbing to see and hear of all the things that are happening there. I know Dr. Aguillard personally and always found him to be a fine upstanding Christian man. It's a shame that things have gotten to this point. I love LC and will be forever grateful for the quality education that I received there.
I can only pray for the future of both the school and Dr. Aguillard that God's will be done.

A bunch of alums are pissed that he wont allow the college to be turned in to some liberal mecca. So they've made up crap to SACS, who clears LC after every visit.
And the large donor that pulled out is a known Calvinist, and the professor they were working with was using their money to push their agenda. The LC board cleared the president of any wrongdoing. That professor was then shown the door, and now hes whining about it. He got caught with his pants down, but doesnt want to accept his fate
Now theyre claiming some student strike, and overwhelmingly its mainly alums who showed up
They are trying to kill the college because they cant have their way. Its just petty and immature. Kinda how Miles was treated after his favoritism with Jefferson. Some want the team to lose just to get Miles fired. Same thing at LC

Sounds like even some non-calvanist professors were fired and are saying how incompetent the administration is!

The insane, childish and sophomoric smoke-screen from the beginning is that all the problems of Louisiana College were caused by this fictitious, now-debunked faux-coup at the hand of Calvinists. No doubt, those seeking to defend unrepentant sin and the unrepentant sinners at the center of this controversy will continue to claim this is a Calvinist conspiracy. They will continue to do so, in spite of the fact that the documentation from Searcy, Johnson and Armour has all come from non-Calvinists. They will continue to do so, in spite of the fact that the greatest evidence of Joe Aguillard’s guilt comes from non-Calvinist, Joe Aguillard himself and other non-Calvinists like Argile Smith.

There is no way that you can say it is some petty disagreement. He mismanaged the money of the largest donor in the history of the college. he knowingly mislead these people and their money. This guy has absolutely no business sense and cannot raise any money. The dorm rooms are beyond uninhabitable and yet they are still putting students up these third world facilities.
He has completely run the LC in the ground financially with his wanting to start a film school, medical school, and law school. That place is so broke it is not even funny.
There is a climate of fear and intimidation that of both faculty and students should never exist on a college campus, but you are probably one of these whack job fundamentalists that think it is ok to push this insane agenda in the name of Jesus Christ so it is justified.

What exactly is a "Known Calvinist?"
I know all kinds of piney-woods North Louisiana Baptists, and I bet nary a one knows whether or not s/he is one of them there "Calvinist Baptists." Most especially a Shalionaire from Coushatta.
An Aguillard supporter posted about "purging the Calvinists" from the school. Anytime a religion gets fervent enough to want to PURGE the non-conforming Christians, I get concerned.
I'm an '88 alum and got a damn fine education from the small liberal arts college in question. The nice folks over at the BSU helped turn me Catholic.
That said, I wasn't forced to go there and neither are the current students. If they don't like it, they can leave.

A change has to happen. Regardless of your take on Aguillard, the damage that has been done and is continuing to be done is irreparable if the administration isn't changed. Personally, I think the climate of intimidation and manipulation that exists, coupled with the SACS issues and continued revelations of ridiculous handling of personnel issues is plenty to have him removed. The Churches within the convention will have to discontinue their funding of the school to get the Board of Trustees and LBC Executive Director to call the shot, though. Otherwise, the circus will continue. I graduated from LC in 1987 and my wife graduated in 1988. It is painful to watch the school we spent formative years at sink into the sewer.
