I'm as draftaholic as anyone around here. Still, I fall back on trusting the front office. Reading draft bloggers and 5 minutes worth of highlights on players does not make one a scout. I treat it as a fun time like Christmas. I'm anxious to see what is under the tree and try to guess what's in the box before it gets opened on draft day.

Look at this list of names-

Ryan Pace Director of Player Personnel
Rick Reiprish Director of College Scouting
Terry Fontenot Director of Pro Scouting
Ryan Powell Pro Scout
Dwaune Jones Regional Scout
Josh Lucas Regional Scout
Brian Adams Area Scout
Mike Baugh Area Scout
Ryan Hollern Area Scout
Jason Mitchell Area Scout
Terry Wooden Area Scout
Joey Vitt, Jr. Combine Scout
Paul Zimmer College Scouting Coordinator
Joey Laine Salary Cap Analyst/Player Personnel
Michael Parenton Scouting Assistant
Casey Talley Scouting Assistant

Can anyone seriously think that message board guys come anywhere close to 16 fulltime employees devoted to researching players? Nah. Still fun tho.

The reaction was definitely overboard, but I understood it. By the way, I was banned during the pick, so I lucked out. I didn't say anything (on twitter) too outlandish, other than that I wasn't happy, and couldn't believe we passed on Jones.

Totally agree with the "fly-by-night" comments.

It's curious to think now that I didn't realize safety as a bigger need, because Harper and Jenkins rated as the two worse safeties the previous year. Jenkins was entering the last year of his contract and never lived up to his potential, and Harper has a large contract that wasn't warranted with his limited skill set.

I fell inlove with a pass rusher, and thought a good pass rush would solve a great deal of our safety problems, which it did to a degree, but we still needed personnel upgrades.

Now we have a rotation of Vaccaro, Bush and Bryd. Holy crap.

I don't mean any of it as a rebuke to those like you who enjoy the entire process. You don't throw your fine china into walls when the GM doesn't pick the guy that you had as your personal favorite.

me too! I remember we were both banned for it. I was for bumping all the Blues threads giving the man his due love. I remember reading the reactions and wanting to call out all the tools for their mouth-breating-bile

I tried telling everyone this before and directly after the draft, but no one seemed ready to hear it.

Have to be careful with that though, a lot of times a secondary suffers when they can't rely on LBs to stop the running game. I'm a firm believer that a good defense starts with the front and works its way backwards.

We're fielding one of the best defensive backfields this year.

I think we're one corner away from being THE best. I can't fully commit to White or P-Rob to cover the 2 receiver.

But if CSP thinks they can do it I'm all aboard.

Internet acting stupid so I know this is late. Been saying all week if we couldn't get a top 3 LT that we'd go S, CB, or WR. The value for S was clearly the highest and I applaud the Saints for the pick.

For all those clamoring for Jones or another OLB or NT I've been saying for a couple of weeks why you and the so called experts were misguided.

We did NOT need another speed edge rusher once we signed Butler. He gave us 3 young, fast guys like that.

What we lack at OLB is experience and someone who can cover, not a speed rusher.

We also do NOT need a space eating NT as Ryan does not us space eaters. We are set with Bunkley and Hicks.

Our clear needs this year and next are LT, CB, WR, and S. I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't take any LBs in the draft. It's simply not a high priority. We'd only do it if the value is too high to pass up.

This also leads me to wonder if Vacarro will play more free or strong. He is built and plays more like a strong but can cover. If he plays strong Harper could get cut come June 1st or maybe he could play a hybrid role and be another OLB.

One of my legendary story books posts. I fricking nailed shite brah.

Bold part is still very true.

Edit:
On the NT, since we didn't use a 3-4 we actually did need another guy for depth, but Jenkins is no space eater despite his size. He loves to collapse the pocket.

Similar in that I don't think anyone with any cap understanding would have guessed we would have been in the running for Byrd- muchless nab him first thing at list price.

Under. 5 if he starts. 1 or 2 if he's rotational.

Under.

The Steelers tagged the guy that beat him out...Jason Wordlis. Transition or Restricted ro something (not Franchise).

Took the under for both scenarios so not sure how that didn't answer the question. I said the same thing last year that he would be lucky to get to 8 or something and he didn't come close to that.

Guy is going to be a huge bust.

And yes EB Worrilds will be one starter but they cut their other starter so he'll at least get a chance at starting.
