If, and when, the plane diverted from it's assigned flight path, shouldn't lights started flashing and bells start ringing? Sirens going off?

The response was no response, business as usual?

Can't believe that.

Who detected the turn around path, wasn't it the destination country?

That's what's strange - both the reporting agency and the timing - from that Avherald link:

quote:

On Mar 11th 2014 Malaysia's Air Force reported their primary radar data suggest, the aircraft may have turned west over the Gulf of Thailand at about 1000 meters/3000 feet below the original flight level (editorial note: another possible interpretation could be: at 1000 meters of height compared to 10000 meters original level) and flown past the east coast near Khota Baru and the west coast of Malaysia near Kedah, the radar return was last seen at 02:40L near Pulau Perak in the Straits of Malacca, about 285nm westsouthwest of the last known (secondary) radar position. Local Police at Khota Bharu confirmed a number of locals reported lights and a low flying aircraft at Khota Bharu at an estimated height of 1000 meters/3000 feet.

The destination country was China - the originating country was Malaysia (KLIA).

So they could turn, but not enough to go back to the airport, or anywhere on land?

It's just not probable at all.

Instead of 1-16, can I have the field? Meaning I think it crashed outside of your map.

Bluefin, can I take None? I'm thinking it was a crash off the current grid.

I believe the original Star Wars trilogy just made its way to Malaysia and the pilot altered course to Tatooine.

Put me down for flew into space.

stands to reason they were returning because they were having mechanical issues...then it also stands to reason they became so severe they crashed
