Crazy arse episode.
Damn, did not see that happening.
How did Hannibal get Miriam to believe it was Chilton?
As much as I love this show, the omnipotence of Lecter is starting to get to me.

In season one, he asked her why they never had an affair and she was flirty with him.
Ah, don't remember that part.

Alana has thought Will committed the murders he is accused of but thought it was because of the meningitis and the fact that Jack pushed him over the edge. She never believed anything he said about Hannibal.
Once Will sent the orderly to murder Hannibal, she became Team Hannibal all the way.
Makes sense

And while Hopkins is iconic as Hannibal - he was only onscreen in SOTL as Hannibal for 16 minutes. I find Mads Mikkelson's Hannibal to be a much more complex performance and much truer to the Hannibal of Thomas Harris's books.
That's part of why Hopkin's Hannibal is so iconic, look how much he did in that short period of time. I haven't read the books but I have heard MM is closer to that, and I love his performance.

Surprised they killed Chilton off so soon since he's around after Hannibal gets locked up in the movies. I thought this guy actually played a damn good Chilton.
Oh and my gf pointed out to me tonight that Miriam is the girl from My Girl.

I've got my fingers crossed that he somehow survived that bullet to the face. I was really looking forward to seeing these versions of Lecter and Chilton interacting in the hospital after Hannibal's arrest.
If Chilton really did die then I'm not sure what to believe anymore with this show. I've thought all along that Jack and Chilton were both 100% safe throughout the series due to their importance in Red Dragon and SOTL. Hell, Jack may die after his fight with Hannibal in the finale now.

Unbelievable episode from last night! I never saw any of that coming.
Throughout the episode:
First, Chilton gets framed!:
Then shot!:

Great episode. Jack seemed unconvinced when he caught Chilton, wonder if that has changed now.
Excited for the Will/Hannibal game being set up. Nice call back to the shot of Hannibal opposite an empty chair in episode 3.
Loved how Will actually looked groomed for the first time at the end. Finally a battle of equals

Re: Chilton-
Will see how it pays out. Makes some sense to keep him "dead" if Jack even believes just a little bit of what Will told him

AVC: Chilton, correct me if I’m wrong, is the first character from the literature that you’ve killed who’s still alive in later books. Do you feel that shakes things up, or do you worry about not having that character to play later?
BF: [Frank] Serpico survived a bullet to the face.
AVC: Okay.
BF: [Laughs.]

In the preview, they showed a conversation between Jack and Will talking about fishing, while they are ice fishing.
Jack: "How do you catch a fish that isn't hungry?"
Will: "You gotta make him bite."
Jack: "You hook him. I'll land him" (while toasting Will with his flask)
They also show Jack and Will having a meal with Hannibal and apologizing for their past actions as "nothing personal".
Seems like Jack and Will are going to go after Hannibal with a big plan and I sure hope Chilton figures in as bait somehow.

But I'm not sure why Jack is still onto Hannibal.
Hannibal has (somehow) thrown all suspicion onto Chilton.
He even got Miriam to ID him.

Jack is still suspicious of Hannibal because of Will.
And, really, there is now way Chilton could have done the Ripper murders - he is disabled from his encounter with Gideon and walks with a cane, he can't eat animal protein, etc.
Plus, I bet that when they go back and check Chilton's whereabouts during all the Ripper murders, there will be at least one where Chilton has a rock solid alibi.
Framing Chilton for the Ripper murders was not a long plan of Hannibal's - something, somewhere won't add up.
And I don't think Jack finds Miriam to be a reliable witness, knowing that Hannibal did the same thing to Will.

Yeah, but Will had extreme encephalitis that allowed Hannibal to give him seizures.
I don't know how he could do the same to Miriam.

possibly because of the drugs he was giving her? i don't know...i guess we'll learn more about it in time...but there have been some disreputable psychiatrists who have induced false memory syndrome with "therapy" alone.

That's the psychic driving thing they keep referring to.
It was invented by one of the founders of MK-Ultra, I believe.

He also used "light therapy" to induce the seizures with Will.
Same thing he did to Miriam last night to "recover" her memory of making the phone call to Jack. A memory Hannibal probably created by using the light therapy and psychic driving.
Miriam mentioned more than once that she never saw him "only the light".

so do you think chilton is really dead?
Posted on 4/12/14 at 5:38 pm to BamaChick
Did they confirm that Chilton used psychic driving on Abel Gideon to convince him he was the Chesapeake Ripper?
Posted on 4/12/14 at 5:39 pm to pussywillows
Not really.
That interview seemed pretty clear that he's alive, but he may not be around much for a while.
