I never carry a side arm while hunting. In fact. I've been in the woods since about 8am doing some post season scouting and wasn't armed at all.

well now what woulda happened if you ran into a killer hog? Or worse yet- a deer dog?

Really? Do you hunt hogs?
Thing is, that guy wasn't even hunting them. It's not like he shot one and had an angry sow or even injured one just enough to piss it off.

A 140-pound feral boar had heard Morris' approach and jumped up from its bed only 8 feet away.

seems he startled the hog which probably triggered the charge. My point being, i doubt the hog was any more aggressive than most others in the woods.

They haven't relaxed restrictions enough.
I came away from that story angered. There should be few if any restrictions on hog hunting. If the overpopulation of hogs is as desperate as reported, LWDF is failing miserably.

Yet another reason to kill every one of those wild swine.

That's the reason I carry a sidearm with me.

People running hog dogs has started to take off around here and I actually heard two guys on separate leases say they let hogs walk all season so there would be plenty to catch during the summer.

This guy and I have been friends since we were 10 years old... he's the most experienced hunter I know, and he is a good shot as well. For this to happen to him, means it can happen to anyone!!!!!
Be careful out there.

Hell people, just don't walk on a hog trail. If you are not sure that it is a hog trail, just look at the trees for mud markings.

I just don't understand why you wouldn't carry a side arm when in the woods.

The chances of something bad happening are slim but the chances of getting mugged are also slim (in regards to total population to victims)

I don't know what concerns me more.. Walking up on some animal that could get at me OR walking up on someone that is trespassing or doing something illegal that they feel your witnessing their act is a major threat.

I know both of those or slim but why not carry if you have a one? To me it's about being prepared and equipped to handle as many situations as possible. Same reason I keep a small ziplock of TP inside of my coat pocket...just want to be prepared to handle the situation.
