Anyone have any experience with the little balls / nuts on the cypress trees (Loaded question fire away smartass responses),,, Like can you propagate them to make other trees or are they useless?????

My experience has been with putting them in slingshots, those bastards sting.

I use to throw them when I was a kid

They get sap everywhere.
Squirrels make mess with them.
Pretty much useless

There are a bunch of seeds inside those little balls. . Take the ones about half dried and roll them around in your hands . They'll start to break to pieces and you can see the seeds . My cousins own a tree nursery and I've helped them plant before. . Cypress are really easy to get started from seed

...and wait...then you'll get a small tree with about 3 dozen knees.

Get the seeds out, put them in your fridge for a few weeks, and plant in the spring.

We used to like shooting them off the trees with BB guns. When they fell in the bayou they would leave an oil slick on the surface.
